I know, I was drooling over that very one a while back when Trailight owned it. Even saved pics of it for whenever I could afford to (or justify!) getting a U.S. custom.

This is why I got this, it's as close as I'll get for now!

I don't really need another bass, so most likely will put my still-mint Tobacco Sunburst 4LX up for sale at some point.

As much as I'd love to own 4 Spectors, I'm not even a working musician currently, just playing at home and trying to get back into recording after a long hiatus (DAWs are hard...I miss the days of 8-Track cassette Portastudios!).

There's that "need" word again. If they bring you joy when playing, they are justified. Have all you can afford. And be happy.

Hi there, I recently got a NS 2000/4 with passive BTS circuitry and passive EMG Hz pickups.
I love the bass, I like the growl and has become my main bass for slap. I also like the tone but really dislike the controls. The pickup separate volume button seem to not to have a linear curve (goes from zero to 10 immediately) and bass-treble only is my least preferred config to work with.
I would like to get either a simple tone knob to roll off treble or one that lets you choose where the roll off occurs. A Bass-mid-treble controls also works for me so I guess I may have to look at active preamps.
I have soldering skills and the tools, but I do not have routing tools in case the control cavity need to be larger to welcome a larger layout, so I need an upgrade solution that involves none to little routing.

I am wondering as to what people that own that model and upgraded would recommend. Thanks!

Nice score, I almost grabbed that one myself this morning. Funny story behind that one, I got the history from the seller today, he bought it brand new from Mother's Music in Calgary. I actually ordered that bass from PJ when I was running Mother's Music in Edmonton and did the ordering for all of our stores for Spector product. I ordered a Buckeye Burl 5 string for our Edmonton store and that one for Calgary.

Thanks. It's a great playing and sounding instrument. I don't often keep 4 strings around very long but this one has potential to sit tight. If it was a buckeye 5 string however!!!!!......

Cool story!

Nice. Walnut back? I wonder what the ratio is on neck-through to bolt-on, seems like for every 20 neck-throughs I see in the classifieds here an Reverb, there's like 1 bolt-on, U.S. or Czech made.

The US bolt-ons have been growing on me lately - visually, that is, haven't played one. I also wonder why the U.S. ones don't have the standard NS2 body.

Mahogany body with Spalted Maple top.

The bolt on basses used to have the fully carved body but around 2004-2005 they changed to the current design.

I guess I'm not understanding exactly what you're trying to say. I'm not familiar with the control cavity on that model either. Lot's of different pre-amp options. I always prefer Volume-Blend-Bass-Treble. But I'm always active preamps. If you decide to do that, maybe a SNC-Pre if you like the typical Spector sound.
