Hey guys,

Thanks for the feedback and tips on the refinish. I've received quotes and after long hard debate, I think I'm going to not do the refinish (it looks great the way it is), but rather sell it and get some cash ready for a Forte. I figure I already have one incredible US bolt-on NS-4MM1 that I think I'll be keeping for a long time, but I don't have a US neck-through, so I'm probably going to put it up for sale soon. If anyone has a Forte and/or wants to try a bolt-on US NS-2J, I have a really nice and light one.

Was watching Road Trip with the girlfriend and in one of the party scenes that a band is playing in the background I noticed the bass player playing a Spector! Had to pause it and take a picture!

Hi Diego:

If you have the old configuration, and you like the sound, you may want to stay with the EMG active circuit. Have you thought about getting EMG active pickups? I am a big fan of the active sound.

Also, if you have a Facebook account, look up Ra Diaz. He is a Spector-endorsed artist, and chileno!

Instead of buying replacement bridges, I had the stock ones finished in the same coating used on our nation's Stealth aircraft, which I thought was pretty rad, courtesy of a friend of mine who works at a gov't contracted plating company. The Hipshot HB6Ys were pretty labor intensive, having had to ream the tuning peg holes. Props to fellow Spector Club member, ebradfordrich for the brief walkthrough. It took the fear down a few notches.

I have a Spector case and a Spector gig bag. I thought at one point, someone had talked about being able to carry-on a bass or guitar and have it placed in some sort of closet on the plane. My biggest fear is the case being thrown in the underbelly of the plane and the bass inside being destroyed. Plus, I'm not a "frequent flyer" by any means. So I didn't know if strings on an instrument can even pass through security. I will be flying out of O'Hare in Chicago.

I would call the airlines you select and ask them if it is allowed and what the check in policy is for an instrument, I have heard that some allow you to walk it to the gate and then they take it and place it on board in a compartment....just got to see if that's available to you!

The performer 5 have HZ pickups on them. I find Performers on GC used site $129-$199 most of the time.

That's a fair price. Sometimes you can find them for $350-$450 on GC used bass site.

Those Legend 5's are hard to come by. Congratulations and welcome to our family! If you're looking for a different tone the TonePump with gain adjustment is best place to start for $99 new or $50-$60 used. Some came with Bart pickups on the custom models. Beautiful Legend 5 you bought! :cool:

I worked for TSA at an airport for 10 years before retiring last year. TSA sees tons of guitars come thru the X-ray every day. Put it in your Spector gig bag and carry on board the jet with you. One of 3 scenarios will happen...1. You'll be asked to attach a green carry on tag and put it on the baggage cart, which then it'll be put in the belly of the jet but in a better spot than the checked in bags and it won't get piled on by large heavy bags and it'll be waiting for you at the gate when you unboard. Called "Gate Checked". 2. You can carry it into the jet with you and put in the overhead compartment. 3. You carry it with you onto the jet and a flight attendant will politely ask you if you'd like to store your bass in one of their front closets normally reserved for suit coats.
Don't sweat it brother...it'll be easier than you can imagine. Just one tip...DO NOT store batteries in your carry on luggage or gig bag, primarily 9V batteries. That's terrorist battery of choice and will alert the TSA X-Ray operator and then you'll find yourself in a bag search situation. They are trained to look for 9V batteries among other electronic devises etc...If you have ANY questions about what not to pack PLEASE feel free to PM me. I want your travel to go smoothly with no hitches. That goes for anyone here. Believe me, TSA wants your travel to be a good experience also. :) Here's a web site that has an extensive list of what's prohibited and also the sized of liquids allowed and a bunch of helpful material. www.tsa.gov.
