Thanks for the info. It's always nice to have options on the fly. I'm one of those simpletons that can get overwhelmed when there's too many though! I'm impressed that EMG did that mod for you free of charge.

I have had some musical developments that have me back into drumming as of late so unfortunately the time for my basses has been short. This mod is certainly worth considering when I can make more time for bass again.

I only paid 4 dollars for the switch and 8 dollars shipping. They did the mod for free at EMG. It's really cool option to have. I only use 2 of the settings now cause the one isn't bright enough for me. It just gives you 3 different treble curves. Pretty cool though and even more variety that is accessable without having to take the back cover off. Those are great battery boxes, as long as they arent too deep for your bass

I already have the single one.... That would suck if it's deeper... I better look into that more

I don't really know who manufactures them, but assume EMG makes them? Here's some pics of all the spare parts I have after I installed everything. Two volume pots and two tone pots came with the DCX pickups and lots of wires and connectors then extra connectors came with the BQC preamp. I also have a mini 2 way toggle if anyone needs one? I had 3 extra jacks and some other parts I have to my luthier cause he builds awesome acoustics and could use them

I spent a lot actually. 200+for the pickups (fret nation you can get them for 195, but I didn't want to wait a extra week at that time) and 179 for the BQC. They not only did the mod for free, but also sent a brand new mid board trusting me to send the other mid board back to them! EMG is extremely awesome to work with. The customer service I got from them directly was beyond what I expected. It was cool that the tech was e mailing me and even called me once. He did say they are working on a few new preamps and other "things" but he couldn't tell me what they were ....

Here's the instructions how to do this mod, and then the proof they did it free. I did say I would tell people how awesome they are, so what better way than on talk bass!! :bassist::bassist:i also have to give a lot of credit to Max at Fat Bass Tone!!! He sold me the Delano Sonar preamp and gave me a full refund like he promised (if I didn't like it) even after I had to solder that in. Who does that???? I bought the BQC off of Max of course and he deals with EMG a lot so they know Max well at EMG. Music companies have awesome customer service!!

A bit of reaming was required for the stacked pots and I'll have to source some proper connectors where the pick ups connect to the ABC pot but did some temp solders there for now. If they don't have them at the local electronics shop I'll look to today, EMG will get an email for an order request.

It's a tight space for my soldering but it all worked out perfect thankfully. Tight space for the second battery also but…. It's in there.

I will say, I didn't notice any major difference (at low levels) in the "sound" of the bass but of course having the mid control is a blatant addition to frequency control.

Ultimately upon initial impression, the BQC is most likely in it for life. It was a killer sounding Fretless before and now it's just more dynamic. I find a Fretless instrument to be the most fun when tone sculpting for some reason and this just added to the pleasure.

We were going to rout a little too the left and right of the single battery compartment so I stay out of the neck wood. But... Jason at Fret Nation when I was going to buy this said a lot of the Spectors just leave the single one and have one under the cover and advised me to do the same. Didn't really give me a reason why not to do it though. I think it would look nicer with the double battery box though??

Nice! Wish that was my bench my bass is on. My luthier builds 4,000 to 10,000 dollar acoustics from wood he gets right near his own home here in NY. His name is Mark Wahl if anyone wants to look him up.

I would say the double box would look better. And it would be easier to change the batteries at the same time.
