Nice! I used to love Blue Steels too but I kept breaking strings. It was a million years ago but after breaking three or four I moved on. Let us know if you have a good experience. Might be inclined to try them again.
Yeah, I used to love them back in the day. I'm not sure why I stopped using them, because they sound fantastic. I'm going to try to record something today or tomorrow. Now, I'm just concentrating on what kind of longevity they have.
What concerns me, is my current string of choice, Dunlop Super Brights, seem to have somewhat limited availability, as does my potential new string of choice, Dean Markely Blue Steels. My 3rd place choice, DR High Beams, have been pretty inconsistent lately, but they're always available. I don't buy strings as often, since I have a way to rejuvenate old strings and make them sound new again, but I like having a small supply of new strings available. I'm probably gonna try to stock up on a few sets of Blue Steels, Super Brights, and I'm definitely gonna try those Apex strings that @BrentSimons mentioned.
Hey Guys,
If you are enjoying your DM Blue Steels, give Apex strings a try. Apex was formed by the original folks from Dean Markley. The Cryos I bought lasted a very long time and even survived a couple of restrings when I took them off and put them on different basses! I used Blue Steels in the 90s. Loved the tone but they always felt "sticky" to me? The Apex strings have a slightly smoother feel. I've attached a sound clip of the Apex Cryos on my Euro 4LX. Please excuse the terrible playing!
Happy Memorial Day,
Stay healthy y'all,
Brent

Definitely gonna try these out! Thanks for the heads up! I also agree that Blue Steels do seem a wee bit "grabbier" than the High Beams or the Super Brights. Nothing that's ridiculous, but I did notice it. Thanks for the clip, your playing was great and it gave me a pretty solid idea of what the strings sound like.
If these are close to Blue Steels, I'll be pleased. AND they cost LESS monies than Blue Steels! WINNAH!
