I played one of the spector ns dimensions and was impressed with the build quality but thrown off by the multi scale. I saw that Guitar Center in Orlando had a used USA NS2 with the Wimbush neck. After talking to a knowledgeable associate, I drove over and fell in love with the Spector. Just great tone and ergonomics all around. It came with Aguilar Pickups.and an Aguilar OBP-2 pre-amp. I find I can get all sorts of tones from rock and jazz to heavier metal. Great all around bass and I love the color. It's Maple Burl and a green or swamp green.

Dang! What's not to love? Definitely not a common finish, and it really stands out! I dig it! I found that the Euro RST has dual volume knobs and is loaded with Aguilars. Does your new NS2 have similar wiring?

Hey All,

Figure this is a long shot but might be the right place to post. I'm looking to buy an NS5 with one of the "hyper" finishes. Red, blue, or violet. The violet or blue would be especially interesting to me. Just sold an instrument so I have cash available. Including pics of what I'm looking for. Or of you have something similar but in a slightly different shade, I would consider it. Also, looking for something under 9.5lbs.

Have you checked (or called) Ish Guitar or Chuck Levin's? They may be able to tell you if they have something on order. The finish on this one is pretty cool.

Same preamp and similar wiring I believe..the Euro RST has the Aguilar Super Double pickups though.(I have them in a B&G Private build and like them as well)

I may pick up one of the new ones as I've heard the necks are a bit thinner front-to-back (more like Doug's original), mine is quite chunky around .88" at first fret, don't get me wrong, I love it but would rather a slightly slimmer profile if possible, and I'm getting tired of the Tonepump. The one I have currently has zero build quality flaws, perfect fretwork, nice weight (maybe slightly heavy 9.2lbs) and the figuring of the maple is amazing and I have a feeling I won't get so lucky again, here in the EU we don't have stores like Sweetwater that allow you to pick your exact model by serial number etc. so what you get is what you get, I would essentially be ordering blindly online so I'm debating whether its worth it to get one of the newer models or just stick with what I have. I'm loving the understated look of the Black Stain Euro Wimbish, would love to hear some opinions if any has got one in their hands yet.

I picked up an aged amber one from Sweetwater. I did not get to pick as it was the only aged amber they had. The neck is very thin, around .78 at the first fret. I love the neck profile. The Pickups and the Darkglass Preamp give it a different sound. I find having a blend easier for me to dial in a tone I like. The tone pump I had seemed to have a baked in distortion even with the gain turned down in the preamp, the Darkglass does not do that. Fretwork is great, no sharp ends or high frets. The only fault with the bass is the spring under the P pickup is soft on the E string side. I can fix that easy enough when I change the strings. The bass is very light at 7.9lbs. I have played this at every show since I got with no regrets.

You will have to do a little soldering - for the output of the volume to the preamp and from the preamp to the output jack (unless you buy a prewired jack). It's not too bad. If you're not good at soldering it might take you an hour.

Well, I guess I'm doing a (gold to black) bridge and tuner upgrade on my '99 NS5CRFM and saving quite a lot of weight off the bass! I got chatting to Jason @ FretNation about the options and once I realised it had one of the stupidly heavy (brass?) bridges (617g or 1.3 lb!!!), it was almost a no-brainer to order a new alloy bridge and some Hipshot Ultralites (with 12mm sleeves), to reduce weight at both ends! I just hope it doesn't change the tone too much...

I'll report back when the new parts arrive and I can do an accurate weight comparison!

Save that brass bridge - they have their uses. For example, if you ever get a Euro 5 Classic, it'll balance the weight on those basses and stop neck dive, and it resonates better than the aluminum on a chambered body. I prefer the lightweight aluminum bridge on non-chambered bodies. You should save just over 1 lb in the swap. I know... I experiment WAY too much on my Spectors. I'm like a mad scientist only I've never invented anything 🤣

EDIT - I just reread your post. My brass bridge was heavier than yours, coming in at 1.6 lbs. versus your 1.3 lbs. The aluminum bridge weighs about. 0.4 lbs. Still very significant!!

pulled the trigger on the EMG DC's to replace my EMG-SSD's (based on what others have posted around here, similar to EMG-HZ). I hope I don't hate it!
It's a Legend 6, tonepump jr.

it would be sick if the hi mass euro bridges were drop in replacements for whatever's on mine, but I doubt it.

I really liked me EMG DC's in my Rebop5 👍. They're great pickups. The only reason I took them out was to swap them with the EMG-X series. You won't be disappointed! You'll be even happier when you replace the TonePump Jr. with the LHZ-04 preamp 😀👍

So, as I am replacing the preamp in my DC/DC Pulse 5 with an LHZ there's no reason to replace the DC in the neck with a P5?

What don't you like about the DC's?

It totally depends on the type of music you play, and what you expect to hear. I have a DC in the neck position and a TW in the bridge position on a custom five string headless that I built and I think they sound amazing. I wouldn't swap them out for anything else.

Why not start with the LHZ (because it sounds like you've already purchased it)… install that first, and see how that goes before you decide to swap out pickups too. I would approach this as 'one component at a time' rather than completely swapping everything at once… until you really understand what it is you 'like or don't like' about the tone before you try to change everything to something different.

At that point, maybe you'll decide you want more of a P sound in the neck position and then you can justify swapping it out… or maybe not.
