Spector Bass - wireless device compatibility

Hi, Chris from New Zealand.

I have a Spector Euro 5 LX that I've had now for a few years. I use it predominantly in my groove metal band. I've been looking to get a wireless device to have a little more freedom on stage without using leads. I tried the Xvive U2 and this last week the Boss WL 20 unit. Unfortunately both are unuseable with the Spector. I got the same results with with my Fender Jazz 5 Deluxe; high pitched scream over the signal. At first I thought I thought it might be interference from home but I took it into the local retailer (The Rockshop in Lower Hutt) only to hear the same result. The uit was fully charged. I mainly want it for the Spector. I have the tonepump preamp in the Spector turned down from say, full output to about a 3 so it is comparable to my other basses, although still a little higher in output. What are other Spector bass players using? Would a Shure PGXD14 or similar do the job? Thats what Im wanting to try next when theres one available. Cheers, Chris.

I've had this happen on one of my basses when using those dongle-type wireless units. Could try using an extension cable to get the transmitter away from the control cavity, or use a professional unit with a separate belt pack transmitter.
Xvive H1 Transmitter Holder hangs onto the strap and comes with a short jack lead.

Would swapping the two battery wires on the Spectre's TRS socket help? I've had screech problem with one wireless but not with others.

I have EMG pups and pre in my Spector and I use a Lekato dongle wireless. Damn near silent. Guess it depends on the preamp. I used it with my Lakland with Nordstrand pups and pre and my Cort with Aguilar pups and Audere pre. Same results. I don't hear enough of anything to make me not use them. Actually I don't recall hearing anything at all.

If the bass is active, you may want to swap the Boss WL20 for the WL20L which works better for active basses. I read your bass is active so try the WL20L. I did try cheap wirelesses and made one of my active basses unusable and was just ok with the other.

I use a Sennheiser EW-D series wireless with 2 different-brand active basses. I have a 2ft. cable on the belt pack. $600 at Sweetwater. Absolutely dead quiet, no noise.

I’m always verbally flogged endlessly and strongly for saying this, but “you get what you pay for” is true as much as or more so with wireless gear.

Now cue the “my $100 wireless works fine” brigade. Which I don’t discount at all.

Yep.. MY Senn EW-D works fine on my Spector Euro 5, Fender J and Ibanez basses.. no issues.
And I'm very much IN the "buy once, cry once" you-get-what-you-pay-for club !!

I cried more buying my Senn EW IEM... but as for the EW-D, not a single issue... and scanning/syncing is a breeze.

Thanks to you... I went with the EW-D, and an excessive amount of eneloop AA batteries... haha.

Did you get you 2ft cable from XBASS Cables? I love my body pack custom 20 inch XBASS cable... it's the perfect length for me. I'll use the stock cable for backup, but I think I might buy another 20 inch cable. It just looks and feels like quality compared to the stock cable.

For the record... I'll just add that I've never had any issues with any of my 2.4/5.8 wireless gear... My reason to make the switch to UHF had more to do with my silent stage rig setup (and partly from the "you get what you pay for club" members). It probably wasn't worth the cost to make the switch for me... but I love my EW-D and EW IEM... that they use AA batteries... and both has been solid. No regrets...

For the question about the beltpack cable, I think that’s the standard length supplied with the beltpack by Sennheiser. Being a right-angle plug kinda guy, I did swap out the straight 1/4” connector for a Neutrik right-angle kinda plug…:D.

I’ve recently learned of Xbass’s cables and as I love spare stuff, I plan to order some cables from him soon. I’ll probably order a beltpack cable while I’m at it.

I have Senn EW-D mic and EW100-G4 bass wireless... and Mipro 909 IEM.
They are in the 470-526 (Q1-6), 470-516 (A1) and 480-544 Mhz (5E) bands... all split to avoid the obvious pitfalls.. but NOT 2.4 G !!
ZERO issues at gigs...

I've been using rechargeable EBL AA's (1.3v) on them for a while.. but recently splurged and replaced them with EBL Li (1.5v) rechargeable.. which charge via USB cable. They work great!

I use the Shure GLXD16+ with no issues. Spector w/ EMG BTS.

Before that I used a PGXD14 and while it worked, I was clipping it all the time.

- Thanks for this. Yes I read that the GLXD has the ability to use -10db attenuation on the input so that is looking like a good option.
