Spector Club - Part 11

I really will give it a chance. I've never seen/heard anyone slapping a Spector, so their preconception (to me) as a "rocker's bass, not a slapper's bass' may be undeserved. Personally, whenever I look at it there across the room (calling to me, whispering to me, telling me to stop working and come play me...), I see Eddie Jackson...

Whom, btw, I LOVE... But I don't emulate...

Yeah? Real interesting? Tell ya what, I'm really more of a StingRay guy, so I might be buying this just to turn it around...

I'm interested as i have a Stingray ready to trade for a good Spector!:hyper:

Spector's slap beautifully if you ask me. Love the tone...

I'll make the owner a reasonable offer tonight after I show him the research I've done and decided on it's value. And then, of course, I want to give it a few hours to convince me that Spectors can funk. I'm open-minded!

After tonight, I'll know if she'll be another wife joining the harem, or just a nasty encounter on a guilty weekend! Either way, she's been fun so far!

The only time that I can recall EVER having heard a Spector being slapped is that one God-awful note in the Police's "Wrapped Around Your Finger", by funk wizard, Sting. I think that subconsciously imprinted on my young (at the time) mind the rule that Spectors are for rock. Only rock. Nothing but rock. And Sting can't slap.

Tim, check out some Doug Wimbish clips on YouTube if you want to see a Spector being slapped. Doug has played his 80's Spector since the 80's and played it on all of the Living Color stuff. Spector makes a Doug signature which I have and is a great bass, and a slapping machine.

This one didn't sell me. The Spector still sounds "spongy" to me when slapped... But the tapping work was ear-perking...

This one's better, but it's his signature model. Sounds to me like he told Spector that the others were too spongy when slapped, 'cause this one sounds tighter and clearer. At 3:10, he even says as much. If this one sounds as good as that one when I restring it, it's mine for keeps.

this fella sure wasn't afeared to slap his NS-2. I'd buy this for a dollar...

Has Doug always played Spector? I love the way he slaps with his fingers in this live video but thought this bass was a Warwick Streamer when looking at it. Sometimes I can't tell the difference between the 2 though but this bass has dot inlays too. If you are saying he has played Spector's since the 80's, maybe this is one also.

Nope. No sarcasm at all. I was gutshot by that RHCP performance right there. I seriously didn't know that you could get that sound from a Spector. (And I knew I spelled 'minute' wrong... THat was a West-Virginia-ism that I done couldn't he'p. Illiteracy is funny when you meant it.

Really? I thought I was the last to know.:smug: Yup, that old stuff is all spector. Check this out (not me):

This is a kramer era NS2 direct in so this is the bass by itself. The tone is amazing, sounds perfect. I love the sound but too bad it's not what I'm looking for. I'm selling mine right now but I don't have an ad up. I'll become a supporting member in the next few days so I can. Anyone interested PM me until I can get an ad up.

I remember seeing that performance. I didn't know much about RHCP and thought they were strange but after seeing that, I had a different opinion. That blue Spector stood out too.
