Spector Club - Part 14

Okay, remember a couple of pages back, I said how some people that work at Guitar Center act very knowledgeable and know nothing, I have a new story only my Spector Brethren can appreciate.

So today I went to the Summerlin Guitar center, here in Vegas. I wanted to play through a couple of things, Markbass and an SVT, and wanted to play my NS-4 through both.

First, I pull it out of the SPECTOR case, a salesman about 15 feet away says "WOW!! WHAT A BEAUTIFUL WARWICK!!" :spit: Okay, I let it pass, give him my best "I will stab you in the neck" look and say, actually it is a Spector. He says "oh, cool". Indeed.

Second, I play through the amps, I come to the conclusion I could play this bass through a old record player and it would sound good. I then put it away, and the manager comes up and says "that might be the most beautiful bass we have ever had in this store" I say thank you, he starts pointing out little things like the color of the wood, the inlays, the craftsmanship that went into it and says "You really have to appreciate his work". I say yes, You do. He says "I was worried there for a while that he was going to have to start building them out of the wood shop at the prison until he got off". I say "WHAT?" Hey says "Phil Spector, when he was up for murder, I thought he was going to have to set up his bass shop in the prison." And I'm out. :rollno: :scowl:

When I was looking at mine that I bought yesterday, the used gear lead says.. "I remember taking pictures of this. I thought man this bass is awesome.... did they spell schecter wrong?"

Please sir step away from MY bass before someone gets hurt :D

Yah right?!? But, what do you expect when they are hiring high school or just out of high school and paying them minimum wage? When I was in Columbus, Ohio GC hardly any of the floor sales were over 18-20! Not saying a young person couldn't have guitar knowledge but they'd be a rarity.

I will never set foot in that idiot bin again (although the Town Square location isn't much better).

OK... the issue is in the name... Guitar Center. No offense to anyone on this board or to the one or two guitarists I like enough to talk to them regularly... but guitarist attitude/mentality on things and bassist attitude/mentality are totally different. Most guitarists I know don't know what intonation is and don't care... Pump them through a distortion box and blast the volume and they're happy. They are really simple creatures when you study them... guitarists...

I would have laughed loudly and said, "Son, does this look like a Eurotrash-wanna-be bass to you? Do you see some wonked-up tuners pointing downwards as if they need some viagra? Nope! This here is the REAL deal. The original. Come and feast your eyes on an AMERICAN-made classic. This here is called a SPECTOR... repeat after me... S-P-E-C-T-O-R. And just know that after I unleash this puppy here today your life will never be the same." Then under my breath I'd say, "Warwick... if this was any other county I'd call in big brother for you to get some re-edu-ma-cation Kim Jung Il stylee."

But what you did is good too. And no offense to anyone with Euro models. Euro SPECTORs are in a league of their own. The "Euro-Trash" thing was just a dig at WW. :-)

I'd have to look at him real hard and say, "Son... are you being serious? Because if you are... wait... where am I? Never mind... you been drinkin' or somethin? Or are you a little mental? Phil Spector is STILL in prison and he's dying of cancer and excuse me Mr. Guitar Store manager... how long have you been in this business because last time I checked Phil Spector hasn't ever made a guitar. EVER. He was a recording engineer and producer."

Then I'd give him the website and say, "You need to have your mind broadened some... read and learn my boy!"

LOL. Seriously. What a messed up encounter you had.

And of course I'm teasing. Just felt like being funny. No disrespect to anyone... except... nah. I'm good. :bassist:

I'd rather go to Sam Ash.. But it's not so convenient. They have a couple Spectors like a zebop and a couple ledgends. Can't blame them for not having any euro NT or USA stuff... It's not a nice part of town lol
