Spector Club - Part 17

So lots of you have been asking what went down with me the last couple of weeks, so please excuse the copy and paste, especially if you don't really care, sorry to post this here, not so much Spector related, but here is what is going on:

A year ago (the day after Thanksgiving) I was diagnosed with leukemia, went through 8 months of chemo, and have been in remission since February. Part of my treatment now is called maintenance therapy, little amounts of chemo drugs that that are not suppose to do anything to me, but in the beginning we have to work out the dosages. So happens that one of the drugs, methotrexate, messes with me quite a bit and drops my white blood cells and knocks out my immune system.

So a couple of weeks ago, with my immune system down, I caught a couple of infections and went on antibiotics to try to wipe it out. I actually got a little worse and by the weekend (2 weeks ago) I felt like garbage and was having problems breathing so I went to the ER. Turns out I caught pneumonia, the kind of pneumonia that HIV patients catch and that is usually fatal because they have no immune system to fight it off. They put me in the hospital for about 2 weeks and pumped me full of every antibacterial, antifungal and anti anything else they could find to try to fight off the pneumonia and infections. For about a week and a half, I was not allowed to move out of bed and needed constant oxygen to keep breathing. They kept upping the amount of oxygen and I was actually topped out for about a day and they started talking about putting me on a respirator/ventilator if my oxygen level got worse and possibly putting me in a coma until they could figure it out and my lungs could start coming around.

Luckily, with the help of my family, friends, and all the prayers and well wishes, the morning they were thinking about going to the respirator, my immune system started to come back and fight off the pneumonia. Within 3-4 days, they were dropping the amount of oxygen I was on until on the 4th day I didn't need any. The doctors were all amazed at how fast my lungs and body recovered, but like I said before, look at my family, I am a Loe and with my wife and kids and amazing family and friends I just simply have too much to live for.

So I got home on Saturday, but I am very week from laying on my butt for the last 2 weeks so I am gaining back my strength little by little and I am feeling good...just my "hospital hangover". We will be readjusting my maintenance schedule so nothing like this happens again.

Playing my NS-4 is even hard because I have no strength in my hands of fingers, but it is coming around and I will get my strength back soon.

Bummer is that I missed about 3 weeks of work, out of sick days from last year, so the down payment on a possible Forte is going to have to be pushed back....

Alright, peace Spector brothers, life is getting a little back to normal but man, you guys are hard to catch up on when you miss a couple of weeks. I guess I have to reassert myself to what is really important and catch up with the Spector Club!

Hmm. I may be interested in doing the same thing. I found this NS2A body for sale here in the classifieds ( http://www.talkbass.com/forum/f126/fs-spector-ns-2a-nt-korean-no-electronics-822842/ ), from the looks of it, it's not in bad condition. Maybe a nice buffing would really make it shine, though. What do you guys think (of both the deal and getting the bass buffed if I were to buy it)? Is it worth it?

Did you buy it? So you are going to spend $2-300 in electronics/pups .. That puts you around what these basses sell for. That is only if you are installing the pups yourself. Its a personal call tho... if you are happy putting the time and money into it than I say go for it. then we can add another Red NS-2A to the club!!!

Wow brother... keeping you in my prayers and don't worry about posting this here... you are family and we care about family!
