Maybe someone else can join in and tell us abit about the different type of pickup sounds related to spectors.
I'm in that J/J vs P/J dilema right now. A store 2.5 hours from me has 2 J/J Spectors, but I'm unsure if I want to spend the time to go there and check them out. Besides, what sounds good in the store, sounds different thru your own rig and in a band situation.
Someone once told me you can make a P sound like a J, but you can't make a J sound like a P.
I've also heard others say the neck J in the Spectors has a "piano like" tone. So I guess for me, I don't think would work with the type of music I play.

I've been a dyed in the wool 5 string player for nearly a decade now and I don't ever see that changing but my cover band is steadily doing more songs in low C and for some of the songs, fretting the C on a low B can a pain when pedaling off of the C so I looked into getting a 4 for a permanent low C, F, Bb, Eb tuning. I tried the tuning with a P Bass and was happy with the result. Then I spent a couple months looking for something more substantial (no offense to the venerable P) and started wanting a more "Eddie Jackson"-ish tone. I stalked and studied the Spector threads and well, here it is (almost)

Worst possible soundquality beware:Just open strings but it shows the paino quality clearly. It comes through alot better with a real tube amp.

That's not too bad (the sound quality). Would it be possible to get you to do it again and have you pluck with your fingers instead of a pick?

No, you've got that the wrong way around in your head.
I finally got the NS2A last night. It's raining out right now so all I have to throw up is this meh indoor pic for now. It definitely needs a little TLC as is. The strings are rusty D'addario steels (ProSteels or Prisms, I suspect) as they have the tell tale colored ball ends. No matter. I've got some .115 sets on the way as I'm tuning it in low C. The nut seems cut kind of low but I see no foul play in the slots, so we'll see after setup. I plugged it in for a sec to check the pre and all functions work. I haven't bothered exploring the tone with the strings being as they are plus a set of EMGs are going in this weekend. I can't wait to hear them with the knockoff Haz pre. I'm really impressed with the construction. Classic NS minus the inlays and the neck feels great. I'll get better pics up sometime next week after the surgery and setup. It's just a few steps away from Metal bliss as of right now. Can I get a #?
wait til you plug it in with the emg's! you mention eddie jackson - instant! takes just a moment of knob tweaking and your on your way to operation mindcrime. sounds great direct to a board (better with a gk of course). tweak just a hair, blend in a nice od and empire is at your finger(pick)tips.

today I got this beauty as a present from my parents.
It's impossible to buy a spector here in Peru, so they ordered it from the US.
I thought it wasn't going to be SO good, be it is more than amazing. The neck is really fast and smooth, it growls a lot and the slap tone is unbelievable
It is a Performer DLX 4, I know it their lowest price series but I'll keep this baby forever. Now I'm sure I'll get a USA model some day.

That's exactly what I had in mind. I've got the GK part covered. I love this old war pig! The 800RB is my favorite head of all time. Mic'd rig and outboard D.I. is the method I'll be implementing, for sure. The EMGs go in tomorrow. Stoked.

This guy's local to me, and I've got the priviledge of knowing him and taking the occasional lesson from him. He just came off a few months touring the northeast US. Some of his vids are from those shows, including this first link. Had I known of these threads I'd have let y'all know. Maybe next time.

There ya go! I use a BL600 and love how similar the tone is to Mindcrime. That which is yours - mmmm, gotta get one. Let me know what you think. Incidentally, are your controls v/v or v/blend? Mine are v/v - not my favorite.
yah thats my bud Chris Kringle on bass he is a GREAT player and a huge spector guy that bass is a a 6er legend but when I see him in town in milwaukee he is usually playing his us ns 5ers
