cool, that string spacing should work out great. i was looking for a spacing that was in between the 20mm of my broadneck ss1 5 string and the much smaller spacing of my ss2 5 string.

the neck sounds like it should be fine as well. i thought the rebop felt pretty good, and i figured they would be pretty close to each other, but i thought i would ask just to make sure.

yeah the 3 band pre is an absolute must for me. i love the 3 band pre set up of my wicks, and though i will definitley give the tone pump a try, i see myself going with the aggie pre very soon after i get the bass. unless anyone has any other good 3 band preamp suggestions? anyone?...anyone?

oh, and thanks again for the replies, they have been extremely helpful.

Hi There! Here are some pictures of my 1984 Spector NS-2... the sides are made out of birch with a three piece maple neck. I really love it... I have had it for about fifteen or so years now. May I be a member of Spector Club?

Yeah, the pictures make it look a little nicer than it is in real life. Most of the scuffs were on it when I bought it, but a lot of the wear above the P-pickup is from anchoring my thumb there.

The finish on the back is sort of rippled (crinkled?) in a weird way... I am not sure if it is due to the kind of finish they used on it. When I first got it, it was coated in old beer... in order to get the bridge off, I had to jam a screwdriver into one of the holes and pry it off. It cleaned up nicely, and under the bridge is where I saw it said "Birch Clear" which solved the "what are the wings made out of" mystery. :)

hello everyone,
Today I finished school for this year and as Christmas is next week i was thinking about buying some strings for my Spector. The strings I have on it are spector too I think and they are better than ernie ball ones (IMO). So i wanted to know what kind of strings do you like on your spectors and what you recommend me :)

DR strings seems to be a favorite among Spector enthusiasts, but that's the natural response when you layer excellence upon excellence. I prefer nickle, so I use Nickle Lo-Riders and Sunbeams.

It's also nice when you hear of a wayward bass finding a good home Eddie. Kinda reminds me of my cat, but in my case I was cleaning off dead fleas instead of old beer. ;)

The previous owner of my Spector says they were .105 Rotosounds, but they seem like .100's to me. Either way, I like them. I bought Roto's again for my replacement set.

Gubna - Those blue strings look like lasers! COOL! Is your bass the blue one that is black on the back? Mine is similar to yours.

Oh, and did SpectorRay ever sell his Euro?

I have a soft spot for the kitties, too... mine had ear mites when I got him instead of fleas, though.... eeeew!!

String-wise, I am a huge fan of Ken Smith Rock Master lights (100-40) but I know string selection is sort of subjective.

I think the best string advice is to first decide if you like stainless steel (tend to be brighter and more aggressive) or nickel. Once you've narrowed that down, you can try different brands. I think the only way to find your strings are to try a bunch of sets and go from there. For instance, start with something like a D'Addario XL. From there, do you want a brighter more aggressive tone? If so, try some different stainless sets. If not, try some other nickel sets.

yeah I like that LASER blue DR strings. That sounds way better than Peacock Blue. My Spector is blue all the way through, all stock. It's exactly the same as when I bought it new. The only thing that's black on it is the knobs and the pick ups.

I bought a set of EB stainless steel once, but they destroyed my fingers, so I'm kind of scared to try stainless steel strings again, but maybe it's just EB are not good to my fingers. I'd like a clean, bright and lots of growl set of strings. I think I'll give DRs a shot

DR stainless are not the same as other stainless. I have played plenty of stainless strings that shred my fingertips(re: Rotosound). DRs are not bad at all. They are only a tiny bit rougher than the DR nickel strings. The nickel DRs sounded a little mellower, but they still had more growl than D'addario XLs IMO. I think you'll like them.

(bass is lighter in colour than appears in picture. More of a honey kinda of colour than amber, very pleasant!)

Passive performer series. I think this one became disontinued but I could be wrong! Picked her up when I was in a local music shop trying out 5-strings. I wanted to see if I truly liked the feel of them before buying an expensive LTD model. Played this one an just fell in love!! She's got quite a beefy growly tone and I play hard which I think gives this one a great sounds.

Cost me £279 GBP. At the time of posting that's about $400 or 300 euros.
