That's definitely a ReBop. I think it may be the finish that's throwing you off since the Performer series are the ones normally done really thickly like that one. But, the position of the pickups, body shape, and crown inlays would indicate a ReBop. I say go for it !

Absolutely STUNNING ! I thought the gold hardware and crown inlays made Spector's look so regal but you have proven me dead wrong! And look at the wood finish! If I ever do manage to scrap together the cahs for a fretless I want it to look exactly like that except without, you know... the frets

Was made-for-order or did you swap out the hardware and do somethign with the inlays yourself?

really! wow. i really like the gold hardware. i've warmed up to my black hardware... but i do like the gold. i think the only bass that i like the black better on is a nice white spector. a white spector just looks right with black hardware.

It's just that the black knobs do not match the gold tuners and bridge.

I a lot of companies do that actually. Fodera, Benavente, R bass, and other high-end guys. I think the black knobs balances out the gold nicely. Gold knobs can very easily look tacky on any given bass while black tends to blend in nicely regardless of the colors of the other hardware.

Well, within reason. On my first defret I spent about $75-$100 there to get the correct tools for the job, in part because the bass I was doing was a decent midrange Yamaha that were discounted and clearanced to a fraction of its original price, so much so that I got two basses - one fretted and a "sister" to defret - for less than one would have cost pre-clearance. The items I *did* purchase were of wonderful help in the project, I have no doubt that it wouldn't have turned out nearly as nice without them, and that I wouldn't have learned nearly as much from playing my "moving up" fretless.

On the other hand, now that I've purchased my ReBop 5 DLX FM Lined Fretless, a far nicer fretless that's also took a trip to HG Thor for his Epoxy Coating and will be a "Lifer" fretless (I'd also like a J-Bass fretless at some point) I plan on bundling my Stewart-MacDonald-purchased tools and selling them here as a "Defretting Kit", so that someone else that has plans on doing the task themselves will be able to gain the tools to do it properly that have only been used once, and I'll be able to pass them along while making back some of my financial outlay from 5 years ago.

I got the mask mostly for the epoxy part, I didn't think of using it for the initial sanding until after I started. I too had reddish snot for a while!

A defreting kit sounds like a winner. I would have jumped on that if it were available when I was doing my defret.

Buying this Spector was one of the best choices I have ever made. I'm so glad I switched from Warwick. Never regretted it. I feel guilty for having such a nice bass.

I just want to add here that this was a darn-near religious conversion. Until Jay (theroan) got his Warwick, he was obsessed with them - I was really surprised when he said he was thinking about ditching the Warwick.

Thanks for the comments everyone, I was a huge fan of green Spectors too. I wasn't even planning on buying a new bass until I found it on Craigslist. It basically screamed "BUY ME!" when I saw it. This thing plays metal with authority, from my experience. It's also a slap machine. It has one of the cleanest solo tones I've ever heard, but boost your amp's low-mids and the thing just wants to rip your head off. I doubt I'll ever sell it.

I actually really like your bass, after seeing it. I also see we have really similar influences. Nice!
