Yeah I've sent this guy a couple of messages asking just exactly what a "Paul McCartney Neck" is... since he's never been associated with our company.
No reply.
And the price jumped from $3000 on Craigslist to $5000 here today?
OK. 1+1=??? This doesn't seem to add up to me.
Maybe its the same guy who wondered if his Brooklyn Spector was mint, then wondered why we worry if things are mint or not?

My impression of the first group was that the NS-5XL with the 18v USA SPECTOR circuit sounded AMAZING. Really one of the best sounding USA models I'd ever heard.
The NS-5H2 was really nice. Aguilar Tone Circuit which is crisp and clean to begin with.
And I DID NOT like the way the NS-2 sounded. I'm a big fan of the classic SPECTOR NS-2 growl. And this bass seemed to be missing something. And I still can't put my finger on it.
So I'd sort of written the Maple fingerboards off, at least in terms of me wanting one.
Then I get my hands on Todd Cooke's new NS-2. The one in the photo below (sorry, haven't had time to clean the image yet, shot it last night in my studio against a green screen).
HOLY COW! I talked with Todd yesterday for about an hour and I told him that it must have been a bug... perhaps the tone circuit in that first NS-2 wasn't right. Because his NS-2 SOUNDS AMAZING.
The growl is there. But there's a new tone... that brighter... sharpness that gloss finished maple gives.
I like it so much that I've pretty much decided that the NS-2 I was going to order a little later this year... that it'll have the Birdseye Maple fingerboard.
I can't tell you how GOOD this bass sounds. It's really, really amazing. And Jimmy Eppard set the action on this one PERFECTLY. It's a blast to play. A seriously great sounding evolution of the classic NS-2.

BUT, I own a Legend Classic 4 and used to own a Legend Custom 5 (sold it for an NS 2000/5, which was basically it's predecessor).
In my opinion, you arent loosing anything by getting one of these Korean made basses. They sound, feel and play great. They have a huge variety of tones available to you via the components, materials and on board pre's.
They sound punchy, clear and thick and they always cut through the mix. I still use my Classic as my main 4 string. It was my first Spector and has been with me for 5 or 6 years now.
I realize the performers are slightly "lower" on the scale than the Classic's, differing mainly on the pickups and pre amp (being passive/passive against the passive/active in the Legends) and the materials are slightly different, but I doubt you'll be disappointed in any way.
My only warning: be careful, they are addictive! Once you feel the neck and the playability you wont want to stop
Also, if youre willing to go this route, keep in mind that there are used models for sale at really good prices all the time.
You can find older Euro models, which come incredibly close to the USAs in terms of feel and overall sound in many cases (so close that many cant tell the difference) used on all the popular sites. Amazing deals come along quite often for what youre getting.
Honestly, if you ask me, any non Korean Euro that is available for under 1000$ feels like a deal to me, a steal even! Were talking high quality instruments and craftsmanship with years of development with the highest care. Top notch stuff.
I've bought 3 in less than two years! =D Looking forward to my next Spector purchase! The first thing other bass players say after playing one of mine, especially the NS-2A, wow, what great neck action!!!

I know that many here know how great the older Korean models like the NS-2A is , so I thought I would post my recent find. I just picked up a "new old stock" SSD-NS95 that I found at my local Guitar Center. This thing doesn't have a scratch on it. First let me say that I was floored at the quality construction and finish of this 15 year old bass. The fret work is top notch and it plays like a dream. I did not have to get it setup, the neck is straight as an arrow. While it is not as hot as my Rebop, it still has that signature Spector sound. Lots of deep lows and punchy mids with clarity. The best part was the price I paid, $ 199.99 with a Freedom hard case included. I can't put this thing down.
