Yeah I haven't A/B'd against any newer setups and TBH I haven't played a Spector in a LONG time to have an actual opinion on the two.
Except that I played a newer Euro w/ the TP pre, and hated it.

I believe that is post-Kramer, where Stuart didn't have the name rights to call it an actual "Spector", but it was, so he just called it SSD. As long as it's a USA NS2 or NS4, it should be fine.

Rex Brown (Pantera, Brown), most of his old Spectors are from the SSD era.

That's funny because while I think that while the Tonepump isn't the warmest sounding preamp in the world I get some serious low end out of it. It never sounds thin to me and I've never needed to put the bass beyond 50% because it just naturally has it. But this really makes me want to try some other preamps to see what I can get out of my Spectors.

Let me clarify. There is no question that there is a ton of piano-like lows, but on my Kramer Spector with the Hazlab, I could get that really warm, fat P-bass deep tone. I can't get that with the Tonepump through the Mesa/Boogie 400+.
As a matter of fact back in the day, I played that Spector through a late 70's SVT and 810 fridge and that tone absolutely killed! I'd bump the bass up about 3/4 and push the treble up for a little bite and some definition, then push those tubes and HALLELUJIA...the walls would rumble and the floors would quake, baby!!!

I'm sure Todd(see above post) has the biggest collection of Brooklyn Spectors anywhere, much less the biggest Spector collection, period.

BTW, the red Kramer Spector is exactly what I'd love to have. A great looking and sounding player that has a few battle scars. I wouldn't be afraid to take this one out on a Friday night.

The aforementioned Spector Euro 5LX Tonedumped w/ an Aguilar OBP-3 and Duncan Dual Coils with a ton of varied samples can be found here. A very helpful thread, and if I wasn't generally a simple single coil type o' guy I'd certainly go that way or with Nordy DCs for multiple usage of Single/Dual Coil/Series/Parallel settings.

As mentioned in that thread I'm not your typical Spector player nor do I desire the typical "Spector Sound" - mine are ReBop DLX euro-made Alder and Maple/Zebrawood topped bolt-ons which I find give them more than a bit of Jazz bass tone (and as been confirmed by PJ @ Spector as the general idea tonally for the ReBop line). The ultimate plan is to install Nordstrand Big Singles along with OBP-3s (that are going to be installed next week) to continue the "SpectorJazz" theme and tone, but due to some recent high-cost purchases I've had to put off the pickup purchase until next year. 3 sets of Custom EMG-sized housing Big Singles is nothing to sneeze at. :help:

THIS I have to see... or rather hear :). After going back to through the Tonedump Ultimate clips I'm soooo tempted to get those pickups. The single coil and slap tones were killer and the thing is, they were flat and I normally hate all flat tones, lol. Decisions, Decisions...
