I love that blue! My Spector is blue, too, but it's a slightly darker shade than that one.

New Euro LX5 in balck matte finish. Nice looker but the TW pups need some getting used to. The sound is a little on the dark side but still articulate and the nut was cut a little to high, I can shave it down a smidge later. So as the snow continues to fall in truck loads here in Philly I'll spend a little time with it. Got it for an extreemely reasonable price from the Beaver. Running thru a BBE-BMAX and a QSC 1850HD it sounds....interesting. About the same horsepower as the old DC pups Spector used to install. The last 3 frets are useless and it would be great if Spector cuts the body back someday so we can play up there unrestricted however I wont be doing solos on this one in the 21 to 24 fret area anyway. So it's off to the basement to fool around....then out to shovel some sidewalks.

Being I cant get into my car for a while......guess I can crank it up today

Yes, headstock is matte and the tuners are gloss. Just played it for a bit at 70% volume and it does have a nice rock- sort of light gritty sound and the low end is not boomy or honky. With a pick and a little tweaking of the EQ this bass is very clear sounding as well as modern. Alder/maple/rosewood combo is nice. The black matte looks good against my gray Penn State hoodie.

I'm surprised I like the emg bt preamp. I was almost certain I would need to swtich it out.


To the guys with both a emg Spector and tone pump Spector, How much difference is the tone pump? I read somewhere that the tone pump is more like an obp1.

Ok this is for the Kramer era guys out there...Does anyone know if the "Spector" pickups in the NS2A's, B's, and C's were actually rebranded EMG Selects?
I have two Kramer NS-2C's and these are my main basses and I totally love the sound of them, and am just wondering if the biggest part of what I like about them (besides the neck) is the Spector pickups...cause there is no preamp in these.
By the way, Im always lookin' for more NS-2C's...blue, red, or black if anyone runs into one or has one.

Ok, so I am thinking of buying a Spector, but info is lean on this one.
I know it's an original version Legend 4, has P/J pups and EMG 3 band active tone controls...

But I don't know what kind of wood the body or neck are. Is this considered to be more in line with the current "Legend Classic" or "Legend Custom" model?

I think it's the bubinga top they usually have on those models.

More like the classic, basswood body, bubinga top, maple neck...but I think the pre is 2 band

Back in 1989 I was told by 2 different sources they were.

That's the same info I got way back when.
I had two NS2A's. One with "Selects" and one with "Spectors".
They sounded the same to me and had similar outputs, which was (both) much less than my NS2 with EMG's.
I put an old set of premium EMG JJ's in one of them (while converting it to a fretless), but left the pre-amp and the output came up to comparible with my NS2.

Before anyone asks:

That's not a marker at the 12th fret, just a camera flash reflection.
I had the pickguard made to cover the modification J/P pickup route area.
Fingerboard was a completely new piece of ebony.

I have the same bass.

Basswood body, bubinga top.
The stacked knob is bass and treble, the other is a tone knob then the two volume knobs.
Assuming everything is stock that is...and from the same era as mine..

If it's bolt in its a classic, if its set neck then its custom. Maple neck, rosewood fingerboard if Im not mistaken..

Went to the Alice In Chains show last night. In a word... Wow! Ok, so Mr. Inez uses Spectors, but what are they? One was a Cherry burst finish reminiscent of a finish on a NS2A like this one.

The other one was a bit peculiar. The finish was like this one that Mr. Cooke owns.

Well, guys & gals, it's new bass day! Just got word from my asst mgr that my package is there, which means my new Spector Forte5 is sitting there waiting patiently for me! I know, no pics, no bass. I'll get some asap! Right now, I'm getting an estimate done on my freshly wrecked truck and I gotta go to work, so it'll be a few hours before I can get pics. I'm excited though! I've got 2 Spectors now, so we need to get the numbers going again! Lol!
