That's really more about low end extension than hearing the actual instrument. I have nearly 10,000 songs on my Ipod/Itunes. I hear the bass fine on any other recording that has it mixed properly. Also, logic dictates that if I'm hearing the low end off the guitars (or anything else for that matter), I should be able to hear the bass guitar as well...if mixed properly.

I don't have any problem hearing Eddie Jackson.

Not really. Not a huge fan. Plus I'm really only talking about 2 songs.

But I must not be the only one, judging by the amount of threads about it (Metallica/no bass/why Jason left) that have appeared on TB over the years.

yeah you gotta EQ on some stuff, but I hear Jason 100x more than I do Cliff- maybe I just know what to listen for? Cliff is always buried under 10 tracks of guitar b/c that's all he followed...

If you want 80's metal bass, I like Megadeth among others for a decent mix. Especially with the remastered discs.

What's really odd is: I saw Metallica (5 band stadium thing) just months before Burton was killed, and he was friggin smokin' loud in their live mix.

Pantera is going to be releasing some old live stuff over the new few years, I've read. Will be cool to get ahold of because Rex AFAIK didn't even use a Spector in the studio until the Trendkill album. But man yeah it sounds great live.

Drop to Eb, add some compression, grab a pick and you're set.

Pantera is going to be releasing some old live stuff over the new few years, I've read. Will be cool to get ahold of because Rex AFAIK didn't even use a Spector in the studio until the Trendkill album. But man yeah it sounds great live.

I could be wrong but I think by FBD, the Spector was alive and well on the recordings (seemingly noticeable on 5 mins alone especially).

Yeah like I said I think there were some tracks laid down with it, and for sure the tour and the promotion after, but I know there was a lot done with his black EBMM SR5 as he had it I think exclusively in the studio on the home video footage. I just watched that DVD about 5 times in the last week, and didn't see any NS4 action in the studio shots, unfortunately.

Jason only used his fretless EB/MM 4 on "Nothing Else Matters". Got no help there.

Hi folks,

Does anyone here string their Spector basses with flatwounds? Just curious.

Secondly, last year (?) I noticed Bass Central were selling a Euro "Sting" model - ie white. Was that an official model and if so, is it still available?

Also how come so many heavy rock/metal guys use Spectors? I play funk, r&b, groove and pop and love my Spectors as they are perfect for it.

I own 12 pro basses, from a 1st year Steinberger L2, Rickenbacker, 4 EBMMs (Sabre, 2 x Stingray and 1 x Big Al), Lakland, Warwick, Fender Gibson etc and my two Euro Spectors (1 x Euro 435LX & 1 x 535LX) crap all over them in terms of build quality, feel, and most importantly, tone and playability.

I'll ask for a member number when I can upload pics. My laptop was stolen in a recent burglary.
