So I've had my Spector Legend Custom-4 for almost 2 weeks now. It's fantastic. My favorite bass I've owned.

He plays the same bass as me just in Amber I believe, Spector Legend 5.... Classic not Custom I believe (correct me if I'm wrong), I woulda expected something a little more grand, but he still owns on it ^^

Now I'm listening to another band who uses Spector basses, 3 (Three) Daniel Grimsland is the bassist. Joey Eppard is the guitarist/vocalist and his father is the Jimmy Eppard that works at Spector if I'm not mistaken.
Anyway great band, check them out definitely.

I saw 3 open up for Porcupine Tree last year. Amazing! Great Band! the bassist was using a Rex Brown (Pantera) Spector if I remember and Colin from Porcupine was using 2 Euro Spectors.
3 was on the bill for the Progressive Nation Tour with Dream Theater this year as well I believe.

I'd love to see 3 live, sort of my second favourite band behind a previously Spector using band (now Fender) Coheed & Cambria
I love the tone on Good Apollo, I'm Burning Star IV, Volume 1: From Fear through the Eyes of Madness by them, definitely check that album out aswell.

Fret your B string at the 7th fret and tune it (with your tuner) to E- That is if you want to detune your B to A.

This makes me wonder how low my tuner goes....

Edit: It goes lower than I want to. I tuned my NS-5H2 to F and inadvertently soiled myself.

btbam plays in C#

he tunes to G#, C#, F#, B, E

it sounds nasty low live, but still clearly audible
its awesome

Good day, all. Long time browser, first time poster here. I've been looking through the Spector Club pages quite carefully over the last few weeks, and there are some beautiful specimens here!

I've been playing bass for nearly eight years, and have decided I would like to purchase my first Spector. As most of you, I am a man who enjoys his tone. I play a wide variety of music (from classical and jazz, to technical/brutal death metal). There's a guy on YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/user/jmatthews13) who has a really wonderful sound. I don't suppose her posts here, does he?

Anywho, I'm thinking I would like to get a five-string Spector, but I am curious as to whether or not I should start with a Euro 5LX. How much of a difference is there between a 5LX and a ReBop (or even a Legend)? I really like the tone and sound of the 5LX, but I've never heard any sound clips from the other two models. I would like to make my decision fairly, especially before dishing out all of that cash!

Does anyone know where I can get some decent sound clips without other instruments (or even just drum and bass)? As it stands, I am leaning towards the 5LX, but as I mentioned, I would love to make a fair decision based on sound, playability, and so on.

I have 2 legends, and i find that they sound as good if not better than euros etc. Thats just me though haha. Ive played most of the models side by side, and still prefer my legends. (one's a bolt on 4 string, other 5 string set neck)


I also find that a lot of them are finished nicer, with gold hardware instead of black. A lot of little things too, like the knobs having a grooved working smoother, having a grooved center point to help find the perfect balance in tone. Obviously, some of the wood finishes on the higher end models are just ridiculous, but for the price and the quality you're getting, Legends do the job for me.

Thats just my opinion, im sure others with better tuned ears will disagree though haha.

Don't know how much this will help, but we recently did some recordings with my band. I play rhythm guitar for the band, but my friend used my LX5 for the bass on one particular track, you can listen to it here There is a little bass solo bit at around 3.25

I put a little bit of simulated valve overdrive on at that particular bit, but the rest of the song is just the bass DI'd with basically no processing. Both pickups on full, a little bit of bass and treble boost. I got the bass about a week before that recording, so I didn't really know how to get the best sounds out of it.
