Spector enthusiasts?

Well, I made it several months without a what-did-I-just-buy-on-CL post. Here's to small victories.

So, any ideas? I'm checking out the used Spectors on Reverb and finding lots of things that are near matches, but something small is off; the info (or lack thereof) on the back of the headstock, chrome vs. plastic knobs, EMG-SSD pickups vs. stock, etc.

I've narrowed it down to cheap import. Legend?

I think that may be an older performer model, but they usually have a more descriptive "designed by spector in woodstock, NY. Crafted in wherever it was made" statement, rather than just a serial number....

Thanks. Yeah, I was scratching my head about the same thing. Grumpy old guy complaint: I don't know why companies can't put the model on the headstock. Seems pretty straightforward.

I'd be more put off by that partial shim, honestly.
Still, most older Spectors I've played (Korea, Chinese, don't remember if there was any Indonesian in there too) were quite good players and sounded the part too. And by sounded the part, I don't mean like their more expensive counterparts, they just sounded good. All around good players and, judging from an acquaintance who's played the nuts off his performer for years, pretty reliable too.
If the price is really tempting, why not. Apart from that shim.

Thanks for weighing in. I'm not worried about the shim. The action and intonation are good throughout. Not worried about the value either. I picked it up really cheap. I just like to know what I have, especially for resale purposes.

I considered writing to Spector. I had a similar issue with an Ibanez bass earlier this year. Someone on TalkBass was able to identify it, but it was no easy task. Ibanez responded to my message after a couple months, and they couldn't tell me what it was. Haha. On the flip side, I messaged Nash guitars yesterday and Bill Nash responded to my message in about 15 minutes. Anyway, maybe I'll reach out to Spector.

Could be the 22 08 2003 is the manufacture date and the six digit number on the headstock the production number? Just guessing here, sorry.
