Hi all,
I've demo'd a Rex and a Forte fretless and liked them both but want the classic NS2 style w/soapbars. My query is buy a Legend now to get the feel of the brand or save and get a Rebop ?
I currently use Warwick and Fender style J basses,playing 80% Chicago Blues.

If you want classic look with soapbars, you'll need an older ReBop. The new ones seem to be strictly MM pick-ups, according to their website.

Hi Nigel, keep an eye on the TB Spector Club thread, and the TB Classifieds. Used Spectors pop up from time to time at really decent prices.

Good choice on whichever series of Spector you choose. IMO they're top notch at every price point.

A Spector Legend is going to do absolutely nothing in preparing you for what an NS2 feels/sounds like. Spector is a "pay if you wanna play" boutique brand. At the least, you need to get into a Euro model, that's a good start.

And the bolt on necks are way different from the neck through of a USA or Euro, this is due to design i am sure.. for structure and strength of the neck.. i have a very nice bolt on for sale..

Dude I want a Forte 5 so freakin bad. Can't afford new and there are no used ones on the market in my area and I'm not down with spending that kind of $$$ over the internet

I have one of the original namm Rebop 5mm basses I've been using for years, they are fantastic basses, it even feels nicer and is finished nicer than my Fender US precision deluxe. The only thing I can say about the euro spector stuff is to plan a preamp swap into your budget. To really sound like a spector you need a hazlab preamp. Though I tend to prefer the dark glass tone capsule in my 5mm. The tone pump and tone pump Jr aren't that bad, but a hazlab or dark glass really make it sound like a spector bass to me.
