Spector Legend 4 Custom; any good?

I played a legend 4 custom at a local shop a few years back. I fell in love with it.

For some reason I didnt get it. I bought a Bongo a few months back. I still wish I could pick up a spector.

I look funny on stage w/ a bongo in a pop/punk rock band

I've had a Legend 5 for 2 1/2 years and still love the feel of it. Has a bright punch of a tone which may be what you're seeking but not the best in a warm bottom type of sound. I scored a pretty good deal on mine but you have many options in that price range, particularly in the used market.

I have the Legend 5 custom as well and would agree with Mr.B
(wondering if some different strings would warm it up, though I like those stock rounds well enough).

The set neck on the Legend 5 is incredible, very different from the bolt-ons I've seen.

But a Rebop for under $400!
if you want a Spector 4, it might be worth trolling the 'Bay for a deal like that when you're ready.

I love my legend 6, and it sounds unbelievably sweet with some sunbeams on it.

I also agree that legends have great necks, some like them more than the Rebops (the great debate of C vs. U necks).

They may be one of the cheaper Spectors (I haven't played a performer series and I've only seen them on the net), but I don't believe that you could buy a better bass new in it's price range.

I played an older legend in GC a little while back. It had the P/J pickup configuration. I thought it was a great playing and great sounding bass. I was very impressed with it, but under close scrutiny I did notice some sloppy work around the bridge and neck pocket, purely cosmetic though.

I use my Spector Legend 5 the most lately.I replaced the ssd Emg's for active 40 cs and dc pups w/ EMG BQC control. And I love the thing.Mine has great intonation no neck flops and holds a good tune even when you dig in.Highly recomended. The long scale is a very small issueI want to try a four string shorter scale I think but this is no biggie.
