Spector opinions

I am looking at getting a Spector Legend 4 Classic and wanted to see if anyone here had any opinions on the older pickup setup vs the new setup. I can get a used classic with the SSD soapbars for around $500 or a new one with the p/j Bartolini setup for around $800. In your opinion, is the new setup worth the extra cost? Opinions on the legend standard vs classic? The only other options I have looked at are an Ibanez sr500e or a schecter stilleto studio. Thoughts? Thanks

ha! i just swooped in to check out the comments and then realized how new the thread is! sorry: i can't offer an opinion (no experience!). i've never owned a spector, but i've played a few (friends), and i was interested in others' thoughts on your subject! good luck getting the info/opinions you seek!:thumbsup:

Well, I only have a NS5 xl, I have played some „europes“ but never had hands on a „legend“. I would suggest to get hands on and see how you feel. Me personally I try Ibanez every now and than in stores, but never got on with them very well. Although they are very well built instruments they seem to not meet my „chemistry“. As Victor Wooten once said in an interview, it‘s important how you „feel“ with a bass. That‘s a very personal thing and that makes it so difficult (if not impossible) to buy basses online. Try to get your hands on. Schecter I have no experience at all. If you have a choice for Bartolinis, I would always go for them (but again it‘s a question of personal taste). Besides my ns5 xl I also have Fender Custom Shop, Fodera, Warwick, etc. The Spector is definately one of my favorites. So my suggestion is Spector with Bartolinis.

I'd only say make sure you play it on a strap for more than a couple of minutes so that you can really scrutinize how their orientation works for you. Beautiful instruments and I'd consider shopping for one if I did all my playing sitting down. Not quite right for me on a strap though - too much of a reach when fretting the lower notes.

Thanks for the responses everyone. Unfortunately in my area nobody sells schecters so I could not test them out. I ended up getting a really good deal on a new in box old stock 2018 legend classic so I ordered it up. Got it for $450 so I can't complain.
