spector rebop repaint

I have a beat up euro reboot. The neck is fine surprisingly, but the body is beat up. Looks like someone took a hammer to it in some spots. I have been able to get most of the dents to come up pretty good though. I plan on repainting it white. Should I sand it all the way down to wood? Or just prep, fill, prime and sand over the original finish? Any one know what they use? Looks thick in some spots. Thanks.

That's pretty much the way I was leaning. There are some deep cracks, gouges, and dents those will need to come down to wood, but 75% of the bass is OK. Its alder I believe from the info I can find on rebops. And I have no idea what its finished with ( tobacco burst). And recomendatiins on wood filler? I used bondo before on a cheapy but it or the wood died back a bit due to the expansion /shrink rates being different. We used auto paint and primer on that one and it came out pretty good (acrylic poly) .

I'd also like to ask a question. Just bought a ReBop that had one of the "horns" chipped off. Pretty big but not too noticeable beacuse of the black pain (tabacco sunburst). Is there any way of filling that chip in to complete the body and make it look like nothing ever broke off the body? Also there are some cosmetic scratches I'd like to fix as well, if there is anything you recommend.
