Spector to Squier- Downgrade?

Hi, I currently have a Spector ReBop 5 that I got from a local pawn shop. This bass is pretty fantastic for how much it was, no doubt about that. I've just been lusting after a '51 sound/look. I have my heart set on a Squier Classic Vibe 50's Precision with the intent to upgrade the pup.

My main question: Do you think that going from a Spector to a Squier would be a major downgrade? Is it something that I might later regret?

I've never been that into spector basses, but that does look like a nice one! If you're just itching for that p-bass sound/look, there are some decent squier affinity p-basses to be had on the used market for under $100. Just check around and find yourself one that feels good to you. That way you could have both, and still scratch the p-bass itch.

if you're going to go for the switch, you could probably get WAY more than enough cash for that spector to fund the p-bass. i'd recommend hanging on to the spector because the squire may be be nice, (i understanding craving that vintage sound from a p-bass) but it's not going to be very versatile.
anyways i don't know what you paid for the spector, but i'd think you could sell if for somewhere around 800?!? (is it the budget line of spector? if not it's worth over a grand new) and a squire vintage feel is only about $300 right?

whatever you do DO NOT DO a straight trade, the spector is worth way more than the squire.

i used to own a rebop, the 4 string though. I also just played the squier you are talking about at my local guitar center the other day. IMO one of the best squiers i ever played. I'll say this, i traded my spector for a lesser quality schecter 5 string b/c i had gotten an american standard jazz and the spector hadn't left the case in over a month. Looking back a regret that. The rebop is a very good bass. The schecter now too is long gone. That was used to fund another purchase.

Moral of the story, if you can wait to buy the squier. wait, maybe a used one will pop up somewhere cheap.

The squier will be a major downgrade, just a simple fact. A Rebop is a hell of a bass. The squier is honestly these days not bad at all for the money, but it was never made to have the quality that your Rebop was (and your Rebop cost way more).

You're just not going to get the same quality. And you will be asking someone to kick your ass for doing it later, so don't do it.

Id say absolutely yes, its a downgrade. Keep the Spector and save up for the squire classiv vibe P if you want one. It could be a good alt bass for P pup voiceings. Though I think theres better low cost P pup basses out there, the classic vibes are good for those more into fenders P bass. I will add that if your really wanting P pup and gotta sell your spector to get one. Id say look real good at the BC Riches instead. Either the NT Mockingbird or Eagle if your wanting more normal size and looking one. Lol. The current production warlocks arent with P pups, but you can still find the left overs from last yr, NT P pup ones thru a few stores.
