Spector tonepump replacement?

Ive recently played a spector euro dlx4 bolt on. it was equipped with Emg hz PUs and tonepump preamp. It sounded way huge and awesome.

Only qualms is, i much prefer a preamp that gives me a blend knob and seperate volume knob as opposed to 2x pickup knobs, aswell as the option to boost mids.

Is there such a preamp out there?

All preamp manufacturers offer what you are looking for.

I see, so how would the 'top brands' compare to each other? (other than price of course).

I forgot to add, I totally love the sound of the bass with the tonepump and EMG hz, and I would love to retain the sound. I just need a different configuration.

Also, to those people with experience, how well do spector work with efx pedals? The spector I tried was quite abit louder than my Dimarzio J'd + audere jazz bass

Sadowsky preamp w/ a blend should do the trick. Your EMG HZ's are regular pickups, so their 500k blend pot will do the trick just fine. Hard pressed to find a preamp that sounds better IMO, but the Aguilar OBP 1 will do pretty much the same sound with a bit more agressiveness in the boost.

The sadowsky preamp also comes with an option for stacked bass/treble and a tone knob with a disable pull option that lots of players prefer (me included). Bit I recently found that you could wire the OBP-1 the same way with an EMG stacked volume pot to replace the bass treble circuit, and then use a push pull tone pot to disable the preamp. Simple.

Either one would be where I would go to replace the tone pump, which was boost only. Both preamps above fit that spec. The aguilar will run you around $140 with all the pots and shipping. The sadowsky runs around $200. Both are about the same size circuit board.. gee I wonder why?

You can re-wire the TonePump to have blend/volume. That's how my Euro 4LX is set up and it's perfect. However, it was done by a previous owner and I don't know the specifics. Come join us in the Spector thread!
