The Forte looks cheesy, but I've never liked Thunderbird-style bodies. I love Spectors and their awesome tone, but I would have to vote Warwick here, if only for the more normal body style.

The Forte X looks a little like a Thunderbird, but the Forte has a traditional NS design.

Yeah I wasn't sure about those old Infectious Grooves stuff. I knew he owned some but until recently, he played alot of different basses and still does onstage. Those 10000 $ signature is ridiculous. Apparently Troy from Mastadon is a Wick endorsee and the bass player from Slipnot was an endorsee. I have no idea if they recorded with them or not. I think I read in BP that Sanders recorded the latest Mastadon record with something other than.

Yeah, I've seen him use it on the TV spots that they've done but I'd be willing to bet he only used it in a few pieces of songs on the new CD. I don't see why he doesn't use it more, it's a good looking 'Wick.

Meshuggah's bass tone is very distorted, too. I believe Dick plays the discontinued Dolphin and it sounds pretty killer. I still think a Spector could do the job without the amount of distortion that he adds.

Yeah Paul loved his wicks (RIP). I tried convert him lol. He liked Spector but could never find a lefty and they don't pay. His ibanez is kinda cool as well. He was a cool guy I got to hang out with and chat with several times. He will be missed.

find the Spector kinda hard to tame down for our more
subdued gigs. It demands attention. OTOH the Warwick
can fit any situation. The only reason the Spector is on
hand is that I can't accommodate the Warwick 5-string
neck, so MY "Wick 5" is made by Stu Spector. His neck
profile for the 5 string make my hand happy, but Wick's
standard 5-string causes cramps. Anywho, it's a sorta
fun game trying to play an occasional dinner gig on the
Spector ... a real challenge, cuz it's so ferral. YMMV.

If you REEEALLY can't decide, get a MM and be happy.

Now, I've never owned a Warwick, but I have played a few. Never in a band situation mind you. They sound great, but a little brighter than I like.

I've been playing Spectors for about 16 years, in all different playing situations (from Metal to Jazz to coffee house singer/songwriter gigs) & I've never had a problem dialing in a killer tone.

What year/model do you have? How do you set your tone controls? I always have mine flat and adjust them if I need to, but I rarely do.

I sold my MM for a Spector with ZERO regrets - it sounds better, plays better and doesn't weigh over ten pounds. YMMV.

Been a spector only player since 92. Played everything form children's albums, to country, to top 40,to fusion, to death metal. Always a killer tone that fits the bill. Tons of compliments always.

I keep looking at all the lists of bass players for each brand and Rex Brown wins everytime for me. Pantera and Down has the best bass sound I think. That riff in the middle of the great southern trendkill is awesome

On a side note, if you ever have an issue, are looking for info, parts ( forte's look cool with gold BTW ) or anything in general about your bass (reguardless of series) you can call NY and talk at length with Stu or PJ. They are happy to talk with you and are genuine good people. Try doing that with Dayna B goods or the current importer for Warwick. Lifetime warranty on the Spector as well.

Oh BTW, did you see the special Limited Edition forte Spector is going to make for Talk Bass?

Also they tend to be a bit brighter due to the brass bell frets and Wenge or Ebony fingerboards.

Spectors are grindy (can be) and wicks are growly, if that makes any sense.

I really like P-nut's tone on Beautiful Disaster - fat yet clear!

The wick is a little more "wooly" where the Spector is more sharp (the emg's) . Don't know about brighter (the treb boost will put your eye out on the Spector with the emg's) but those brass alloy frets on the wick have a real unique and cool zing. Sounds ok with a pic , but great with fingers.

P-nut always sounds killer. I like the wick tone for what they do. The wick grunt sounds better on the low end than the Spector growl when playing there stuff. Turning down the treb about 3/4 I can get pretty close to that but not quite. But that's the wick tone kicking in.
