Spelling errors that drive you nuts!

I know what you're saying Disco.
Some people simply can't spell very well. I seldom find someones spelling so bad that I "have to work extra hard" to understand them.

I guess if I do, I just will have to ignore the whole post.
I dunno, I'm just not all that easy to get upset or annoyed by others. There are just too many other things in life that legitimately annoy me that I don't waste my aggravation on petty stuff like the spelling or grammar of others. I'm a really easy-going kinda person I guess.
I suppose I'm in the minority on this one.

Really the only thing I get annoyed by is when someone treats people with disrespect or tries to be obnoxious. You see this on forums sometimes. I don't understand why "aninimity" makes some people think that they don't have to have manners when posting.

Agreed. Cheap shots are unfair and undercut any meaningful discourse.

And in particular it really bothered me (and at the time I said so) the few times I've seen a younger member of TalkBass wind up in the cross-hairs of some Internet 'tough guy' who engages in the reciprocating self-gratification of needlessly broad-siding others while cowering behind a computer. Pathetic.

The young bassists who post on this forum should find nothing but fellowship and opportunities to learn from their fellow players.

These adolescents don't need to have their nascent and still fragile self-identity assailed by the people they've turned to for guidance.

My rule for posting on the 'net?: Never post anything that one would not want a prospective employer to see, or anything which one would not say in person to a much bigger man who's already in a bad mood.

BTW, the reason I revived this thread is because like the majority of TB'ers, I do my best to help those who post for assistance.

But some of said posts (from native English speakers) are so mangled as to further obscure the problem they've posted about.

I just wish that more players would invest as much care in their posting as they do in their playing--especially the older cats who I believe have a responsibility to set a good example for the younger ones.

The only one that really grinds my gears is when people put "your" instead of "you're."

There are several things. I have a bit of Grammar Nazi balled up inside of me.

The First Thing That Drives Me Nuts Is When People Capitalize The First Letter of Every Word Like This. I don't see it too often, but I'll let them know when it's wrong.

The other thing is when people type a new sentence on the next line.

You're not a poet, don't type like one.
Seriously.

Oh yes, and lastly, when people type with that whole *<33 crap. Seriously, I'm going to dropkick a baby if I see that one more time on Facebook.

All complaints aside, I can work around it if you really are a bad speller. Just don't spell bad on purpose.

Mostly it's improper use of your/you're, and their/there/they're. I've also seen some been/being which really annoys me, I definitely have a Grammar Nazi living inside me somewhere.
Another thing to remember is that certain words are spelled differently in different countries. For example, it's "colour" down under, not "color", etc.
