Double Bass SPIROCORES ARE SO MUCH FUN!!!!!!!

The crossing on the peg itself isn’t the issue that I’m talking about. It’s when for instance the D string from the upper peg passes over the G strings wrapped around the peg south of that. That’s where the sheath would go. I don’t have a picture handy to splain... perhaps you could show a pic of your issue?

Such a boring question but why do the silks on my spiros always fray so badly at the peg box?Am I wrapping them incorrectly?

They have only been off a couple of times but already look beat up.

Thomastik silks don't seem to be as durable as the ones on other brands of strings. On my last set of Spirocores, the silk at the tailpiece was badly frayed on the A and D strings from the output jack of my Full Circle pickup. By comparison, Pirastro silks still look good even after removing and re-installing the strings several times.

Hey everyone, so I am back to really enjoying Spiros again, but what I'm using is a mix set that were all sold to me as s42 mittels. The D and G are for certain, the A, I believe is, but is an older string with more crimson colored silks, but the E has this longer silk... Is it a C extension? If so how different are those tensions? I really like that balance right now tension wise. Thanks for any input. - Jay

Been happily playing spiro reds again and my bass is roaring. Coincidentally I am suffering from numbness in my fingers, carpel tunnel syndrome, rotater cuff pain, lower back pain and blisters. I don't think they are related though.
I keep going back and forth between Perps and Reds.

I’m so happy with Perpetuals on both of my basses that I never think about Spirocores or other strings any more.

You would know if the E is more than eight inches longer than the other strings as with an extension string.
It is possible that the upper ones are from a 3/4 set and the lower one from a 4/4, but even then the difference wouldn’t be that much.
The different color may be a result of mixing in an old stock string. The current Spiros have a bit brighter red silks than the older ones.

Thanks. I obviously have zero Extension experience, ha. It is possible the G and D are 3/4, if, Upton Shipped me 3/4 strings in s42 sleeves... they are the remaining original strings from a newly purchased set 2 years ago.

Me too. First year I was thinking about different things like adding a spiro E, an evah G, but always went back to the perpetuals. When the new set was put on i tried it with an olive G which was awesome but for me the full set is best. Can't imagine going to anything else for the time being.

You can have a look into my Dropbox (link in signature and also one of the string stickies). There are typical lengths for 4/4 and 3/4 Spiros income of the files.

I have had Spirocore Mittels on the D and G strings for a few weeks now and it is fun. I'm not that my bass is happy, but I'm really enjoying the articulation with them. They feel great.

I have been trading in the classifieds and have some used 3885 weichs arriving this week. We'll see. They are fun, though.
