English player suffers split scrotum

Chris Whelpdale, a winger with English fourth-tier side Gillingham, suffered a painful and unusual injury in a 2-1 win at Crawley Monday when a tackle split open his scrotum, AFP reported.

"It's a horrific injury," Gillingham boss Andy Hessenthaler told the BBC. "He's going to be very sore, and I'm sure his wife won't be too happy either."

Whelpdale required five stitches to close the injury, which occurred during a high tackle by David Hunt, The Sun reported.

The 22-year-old Whelpdale, who joined the soccer club from Peterborough in July, has scored four goals in 22 games.

To split open a scrotum from impact alone, tearing and rending of thin walled flesh so that stitching was required must have taken great force, friction & unfortunately a unique angle of the above.
The impact to the testicles may have crushed the gland(s), resulting in vascular trauma with potential need of micro surgical operations in the future. I once heard of this before but in different circumstances. I was told the pain often results in the individual loosing consciousness; which would be a blessing in such an accident. I would have thought he would have worn a cup.

The dude may have had some freaky piercings that helped the split.

Here's another fkd up sports story - 100% unverified.
A university rugby player dislocates his hip on the field. One of his teammates is a medical student who knows how to force it back into the socket, which he does with finesse.

Unfortunately the dislocation resulted in one of his nuts being in the socket area, which has now been crushed.
