Is anyone else alarmed that it's now April 8th and there are NO leaves on any of the trees yet? I've got two white pines outside that are completely dead too! What happened this winter?

Spring in the midwest

I noticed a few dead pines on campus today too. I dunno. I'm new to the North (kinda - grew up in Nebraska but I moved to Atlanta when I was 10 and I've been there for 8 years, so I dont remember exactly how the seasons go

Everyday Midwest weather. It snowed 2 feet on Saturday/Sunday and melted over night and dry on Monday.
It was a little windy today, but the water is starting to warm up. It's around 60 degrees. A few more degrees and we'll be able to trunk it soon when we surf.
The trees around here are budding, and a few are starting to bloom. It's definitely been a little colder, but I reckon that'll change soon.
I was going to ask how many inches did you get. Supposed to snow here in Chicago over the weekend.
Leaves better not open yet or they will be killed by the cold.
That's the difference between native trees & exotics. Native trees bloom much later and are protected, unlike asian plant like JAPANESE maples that can get hammered by an early push.

I grew up in Michigan. When I was really little I always wanted to know when my birthday party would be. Mom always told me when the tree's start to grow leaves (My birthday's in early may). Don't worry about the trees for another month, and dont' try and plant the garden or flowers until early June.
I'm in TN now, and one of my rose bushes is started to bud (we'll be 78 here today) but we have snow in the forcast for Monday. There goes that batch of flowers.

odd winter it was.
I just want the temperature changes to knock it off already, my sinuses are #$@$&@.
giving it another week or two then the pontoon is getting loaded up with a cooler and getting put in the water no matter what.

That's the beauty of my kayak... it's small and easy to launch, I've been in the water Since Mid February, when I get a nice sunny warm day... then the next day when It's sleeting I stay home in front of the heater practicing my bass. 
At least you didn't wake up to...hmmm, about 4 inches of snow. I was going to post a pic but my camera is dead. It's still snowing too.
