Squier Affinity Jaguar Bass...H?!

Recently picked up one of these used. Pickup changed, 3way switch added, and strung up with flats. Lightweight and fun to play!

This one is in its way to me. I have a Nordstrand Big Blademan I’ll likely be installing, along with a 4 way rotary and stacked volume/tone. Should be fun.

Just picked up today a closeout open box exactly like this from FGW for under 2 bills. After setting it up (vintage bridge, truss rod adjustments, fret erasing, Howard’s feed n wax) and using the original strings, which sound great right now lots of life left, I’m ecstatic. Lowered the hot pickup a little, which sounds pretty good for a cheap pickup so far. I haven’t played a medium scale bass since the 80’s (Alembic that I never got on with) and I absolutely love the scale and this bass. I’m able to play a little more fiddly à la Ox, much easier to get around the shorter neck.

Does sound very P bass which is just fine with me. However I do want to read this entire thread to see what you all did to yours over the last few years.

I would definitely buy another one of these and I’m really sold on medium scale.

Mine is still stock (MIC, black with maple fretboard), lightweight, well balanced, strung with Chromes and it's killer.. wouldn't change a thing on it!

I’m now on my third pickup try. Stock one was ok. The Seymore Duncan was also ok. This time a double J. I’m liking this best so far. Had to fab a pickguard by hand which took me the better part of a Saturday! I had a sheet of tort laying around so used that up. Debated doing it out of black.

The neck just feels great on this bass. And luckily mine balances pretty well with a wide strap.

Bernie Hamburger put the new pickup in wired parallel sounds great but still has some buzz even after shielding all the cavities. I’d probably attribute that to the cheap pickup so I’ll shop around for something a little nicer. Keeping my hand on the strings helps.

Put some EXL170Ms on it and sounds killer. Lot of fun to play.

Anybody tried this guy to turn it into a P bass? Music man style P-bass Pickup / Ceramic – Roswell Pickups

Wondering if it's worth it to change the wiring harness while I'm at it.
