Squier Affinity Jazz V SURPRISE ??

So I recently traded some gear to a local shop for a Brown Burst Squier Affinity Jazz V. It's my first Squire and much like many others on here I am very pleased with quality and value in this instrument. I decided to try an older white guard on it from my main player a MIM Fender Jazz V that was kind of yellowed and had a neat vintage feel. The SURPRISE came when I removed the Squier pickguard. THERE WAS NO CNC HOLE ! nor a pickup to control plate route like all the MIM's I've ever replaced guards on.

Can anyone shed any light on this or have any additional knowledge about it?

Thanks

on the Affinity's that I have seen there is only a 'generous' route around the neck pup ... in fact on the cheapie Affinity J that I just leave out on the stand to grab and play, I leave the guard off, as it has been stripped and stained a dark wood ...

... an interesting story, somewhat related, is that I purchased what was touted virtually as a Mexi frankenfenderjazz with fake waterslide, etc, only to find when I opened it up that it in fact is just a dressed up Squier Affinity ... thats how I was able to confirm, was the routing, or lack of, then I opened the control cavity to verify ...

So any idea why the more expensive fenders have that ugly CNC hole yet instruments made in China don't?

... all of it doesn't seem to make much sense ... but to take it a step further, they Highway One Jazz body has no hole, or routing either, and yet the Am Standard does ... the Classic Series 60's Jazz had nothing either up until just recently, and now it has the CNC hole, with no routing ... I have also heard that the burst RW Jazz has the hole, and the red one does not ... must have something to do with what factory each comes out of perhaps ... ?? ... it has just become if you want to run w/o pickguard, you just have to learn what does and doesn't have the 'subway system' ...

The Affinity Jazz V's CNC hole is in the neck pocket and the spacing around the pickups is nice and tight. Looks awesome with or without pickguard.

That's funny I was speaking to a luthier today at lunch time and he said the same about the neck pocket. I agree too on the PUP hole spacing, it looked petty cool with the guard off, very similar to the VM fretless

We were working in the studio last spring. They had a Squier Affinity V Jazz on the wall. I tuned it and tried it for an hour and couldn't believe how well it played. Throw some decent tuners on, maybe up the strings a bit and hammer on.
