Has anyone changed the pickup out on your Squier Bronco? I hear they come with a single coil strat type pickup. I presume if you wanted to install a hot rail type guitar pickup it should work just fine. Anyone have any suggestions?

Now that looks really nice and I bet it sounds awesome. What company made that mini humbucker? You should post a video sound sample on youtube. I am sure a lot of people would like to hear this one.
Hello jallenbass. Is that just a single unit typical of being used in stratocaster guitars? Did you just mount one in the slot of your bronco?
I put a noiseless tele in one (won’t fit standard pickguard) and a lace red in my other. The lace will fit standard pickguards. The lace is pretty boomy, have to eq to suit.
Now those look really nice too. Never thought about the tele pickup. You did a good job on those. I bet they sound great.
I prefer no noise. So on my instruments I have modded I replace the single coil stock pickup with a Strat rails style pickup. You used to only be able to get Seymour Duncan hot rails or cool rails years ago, now there are many, and you have a wide palate of tonal colors. They are direct retrofit, so no routing or drilling. If wired standard, all you have to do is unsolder the hot lead, resolder the new hot lead, and same with the ground.
My 1978 Musicmaster has a Red Lace Sensor and it sounds every bit as great as my American Precision with an EMG Geezer pickup. And yes, a standard size Strat pickup fits in a Musicmaster or Bronco. The Red Lace Sensor is the standard Strat size and is a great pickup for bass and you should wire it just like a Precision. I use mine on stage now instead of my Precision. Before the Red Lace Sensor, it was weak. Now it is powerful, not muddy at all, and dead quiet.

Yes, or at least a copy of one, there are quite a few copy versions out there these days. Can't quite read the engraving on the cover, but it's in the same place as on a TV Jones. For sure blacktocomm can tell us.
I would go Seymour Duncan Antiquity I single coil myself ('50s P-bass style).

I put a Lace Sensor blue in my Musicmaster, they work fine. I'm sure red will also. A Strat type rails pickup is a fairly standard replacement for Broncos and Musicmasters, won't go wrong with that either. That's the beauty of having a Strat size original pickup, tons of good options.
That L45-S suggested by jallenbass looks like a pretty cool option, too. All of these are simple drop in replacements, easily reversed if desired, and about as easy as you can get.
Single coil P pickup. (First generation 1951- 1957, later returned as the Telecaster bass in the '60's.)
My biggest gripe with the stock pick up is how noisy it is. Otherwise, I don’t mind the sound.
