perhaps it's a numbers game most likely.
I doubt there are highly specialized pickguard manufacturers in the world capable of keeping up with the demand from Fender. But I'd bet it's dirt cheap to order (and manufacture) millions of the same 2 shapes in 5 different colors to meet demand.
I'm sure it is but The Stratosphere has no problem sourcing pickguards for most Fender models in several different colors for each. Some are pretty wild too. They may even have an agreement with Fender where Fender puts tort on everything so that Stratosphere can sell aftermarket pickguards for $9.99.....LOL. I'm joking of course.
Fender uses quite a few variations themselves it's only their choice of using tort with certain body colors that I question. Although I'm not a huge fan of it tort does look good with certain finishes. But to me it also looks out of place with others and Daphne Blue is just one of them. All just personal opinion you understand.
