I'm sure it is but The Stratosphere has no problem sourcing pickguards for most Fender models in several different colors for each. Some are pretty wild too. They may even have an agreement with Fender where Fender puts tort on everything so that Stratosphere can sell aftermarket pickguards for $9.99.....LOL. I'm joking of course.

Fender uses quite a few variations themselves it's only their choice of using tort with certain body colors that I question. Although I'm not a huge fan of it tort does look good with certain finishes. But to me it also looks out of place with others and Daphne Blue is just one of them. All just personal opinion you understand. :D

I can't say for sure, but for what it's worth, I have a 2018 Vintage Modified '70s Jazz neck...also crafted in Indonesia and manufactured right before Squier switched their branding to "Classic Vibe"...fitted to a Mexican-made Geddy Lee body.

I feel that tortoiseshell has a time and place (if done well). In my opinion, acoustics are where they look best. Although that daphne blue squier bass does look better with the tort. That's coming from someone who despises tort. Now if it was tortoiseshell on arctic or Olympic white I would cry internally.

Does anyone know how much a CV tuner weighs? My analog UPS scale isn't sensitive enough to give me an accurate measure. I'm considering a set of low-cost, off-brand tuners in the classifieds to replace four CV tuners. Hipshot is an option, but it would be one of last resort.

I'm assembling a parts-bass which will be donated to a high school, so I'm trying to strike a good balance between cost and functionality. The CV tuners work just fine, but the paulownia Jazz body is so light, there's a mild bit o' neck dive happening, even with a chunky Fender Deluxe high-mass bridge.

I don't know specifically for the CVs, but swapping out my Sire tuners saved about 1/4 lb of weight off the headstock which is pretty significant. I don't know of many low cost off brand tuners that would give you any significant weight savings to be worth the price, but if you know if any I'd love to check em out.

Swapped out your Sire tuners for what? Hipshots? Something else?

Here's the ad in question. The tuners that look like they should be lighter are ones three rows from the left. The seller told me they're 100g each, which is 15g more than a standard Hipshot HB7 tuner. Weird, huh? Something about their construction or composition must be giving them more mass, despite looking like the smallest, 4-inline set there.

Ooops! Yes, swapped them out for Hipshot Import Ultralites. I think the composition of the alloy could have something to do with the weight as well. IMO for 1/2" post tuners, it's import ultralites or nothing. You can even sometimes (YMMV) get some 'blem/b-stock' ones off of Hipshot through Ebay and save a pretty penny. Definitely worth it when they're available.


OOOH! THOSE tuners. Yeah those are NOT lightweight at all. They have a different footprint than a typical tuner but IMO those would be a waste of money if you're looking for weight savings. For comparison, a Hipshot import ultralite is about 50-55G per tuner. You'd be saving about .4 lbs off the headstock and improve the balance significantly. I always recommend the ultralite. It requires drilling one small hole per tuner, but the hole will be covered if you decide to revert back to the stock tuners for any reason.

I changed the bridge (Fender Hi-mass) and pickups (emg gzr) of my chinese 2022 CV which came with a quartersawn neck. Gave her a good setup and she sounds even better now.

Does the EMG GZR direct fit to stock pickguard without trim ? I been install one on my previous CIC fiesta red stock tort guard which need little trim work to fit, include the Aggy 4P60. No problem on Aliexpress pickguard.

Don't be too excited, these new CIC Squiers are pretty rare and also the tuners, bridges and general hardware is not as "brilliant" as the 1st gen from 2008-2019. And can we talk about the golden leaf Squier logo from 2008-2011ish? It was better than any Fender logo!

I'm thinking about putting some kent Armstrong lipsticks in my paranormal jazz. (This thing has the CV look and vibe which is why I'm using this thread). I'm pretty dead set on these pickups, I'm also going to put some better pots in there and better caps. I was going to go with standard CTS audio taper pots and mojotone paper in oils, I just thought I'd hit up the thread and get some other opinions on my plans.

Im also going to swap out the bridge as the previous owner put a really cheap one on that matches the vibe well, but I don't like the way the strings rest on it, and it doesn't intimate very well. I'll probably be going with the fender high mass. In case I want to put ashtrays on it in the future, does anyone know if ashtrays will fit with the fender high mass?
