Went to my local music store and traded in my 2003 Ibanez BTB for a new 50s P:

I'm very impressed with the bass. It is built extremely well and after I put on a new set of XL chromes and set it up, it plays and sounds fantastic.

I'm pleased with my trade in decision.

What a day. A good friend of mine brought over his blue classic vibe swearing up and down I would be amazed with it. I didn't want it to leave my house after I put my hands around it, it was just that awesome. So fast forward to this morning, I'm calling every music store I know to snag one for myself. I couldn't find a single one in the DMV area in stock. Though I knew I could probably get a better deal through musician's friend, I wanted one and wanted it NOW. The closest I could find was at a guitar center way in Harrisburg PA, which is about 150 miles away from my house. I had an associate look it over and make sure it was good to go and headed on my way. I got caught in the snow storm and it took about 4 hours to get there. It was a pleasant surprise to find it had been marked down as clearance; but even more so, the good people at this location set it up for me since I traveled so far. Famished, I ate a nice steak in PA then proceeded to head on home. Polished it, conditioned the fretboard, and slapped some flats on her... Been playing all night long. The value is simply unreal with this bass, I'm still quite amazed. Definitely well worth the trip, keeping my eye out for another just to ease my mind.

What I love about the CV 50's and 60's is those vintage frets. Love 'em.

Q for you guys? Is the Matt Freeman P the same as the Classic Vibe 60's P in a different color? I looked up the specs at the Fender site, and they appear to be the same to me.

Not entirely. I have the classic 60's (sonic blue) and the Freeman. The Freeman's neck is a bit chunkier and it doesn't have the little bitty vintage frets that the 60's has.

As far as fit n' finish and the "oh my God this is an amazing bass for the price" factor? Yes, they are the same. Considering I got my Freeman on CL for $200, it's just a ridiculous, stoopid, insane great deal.

Mine shows up as 9.0 lbs on the ol' bathroom scale, which only shows 0.5 lb increments. Sweetwater has two on their site--one is 10 lb 2 oz and the other is 8 lb 11 oz.

I play in the church Worship band and have been pounding this bass the last 2 weeks. It is such a great bass and all stock too.

I love those 50's CV basses. I highly recommend the Duncan Antiquity or SCPB series.

Anyone fitted an Electrosocket jack socket to their 50's yet? The factory issue socket coming loose the whole time is starting to bug me. Is the standard Tele one a good fit? Completely reversible?

i just picked up my CV jazz yesterday, and i cant put the thing down. i know its apples and oranges, but this thing blows my ibanez prestige out of the water, and with a $1000 price difference, this may be the best buy in the bass world. i will eventually put in new electronics and maybe some hipshot tuners. but right now im pretty happy and not in a hurry to upgrade this baby. are you still handing out numbers?

i played a lot of jazz basses when i bought this one, and while there was one custom shop model that i liked more, this one held its own with all of them, and actually played and sounded better than most of them. i couldnt be happier with my purchase.
