With the CV 60s P-Bass, I feel that no individual aspect of it stands out in particular, but the combination of all the various features comes together with a wonderful synergy. The result is a bass that "feels expensive" and plays great. Probably one of the best deals on basses out there. Put a Fender logo on it and you could charge $1,000 and no one would blink.

That, and the Sonic Blue color is just killer (and oddly rare nowadays).

I just noticed that the CV 60's jazz also has smaller frets.

And i like it that way.



Im still blown away. I owned a Squier P in the early 2000's, and this is leaps and bounds better.

So for a classic vibe 60's P whoch guard do you think would look best.
1.) Pearl
2.) Tort
3.) Black
4.) Mint
5.) Gold metal

i am going with 5 right now , the anodized gold guards, as i see black looking horrible on it and mint is not much different then my white one.

I think you'll be very happy. A while back someone posted that color combination and it's one of my favs; sonic blue, gold 'guard, rosewood 'board.

I have to go with white... it's just a classic, I reckon aged or parchment might be nice, or white pearl... it just seems to bring out the sonic blueness even more to me...

White does look good and its allready on the bass so that makes it easy , but yeah i think i will get a gold one to just to chnage it up , my local pawn shop has had a gold fender guard hanging on the wall for years so its time to haggle.

I did some Photoshops a while ago and gold did look pretty good on there. Tort also looked good as well.

So i buy USA knobs for my Cv , next thing i know i sell its pickups for 30$ to some guy locally and i am now stripping other stuff off to sell and gearing up to revamp my CV.

Going to wait and find some used pickups here, CTS pots , and a switchcraft jack ,planning on a new guard and ditching the bridge cover it sits to high and i cant play with it .

I will make my own thread with pics and a build cost when its completed.

Temped to mod, but after a set of chromes on my CV 60's J... I am in love as is.
My CV 50's P is so pretty as is, I think I would only want to pop in a new pick up and top mount a thumb rest. Trying to think of ways to disguise a top thumb rest as not to interfere with the aesthetics.
Meanwhile i am modding the heck out of my VMTB

It's not necessarily a matter of "better" but just different. The CV series have high gloss, vintage tint necks, and higher mass bridges. The bodies are basswood, compared to the soft maple and Agathis of the VM's. Pickups are also different. I've played all of the Vintage Modified series of basses and "to me" the Classic Vibes feel superior. The bodies resonate better, the tone is more "Fenderish"..etc.

Thanks very much for your thoughts.Today I pulled the trigger and ordered a CV 60's Jazz. Boy am I excited.

Hi Laurie Bass-- I will be postin gin the "perfect fit" and Vintage Modified threads as i progess,.. but since you asked,....

The VMTB has so far,.. Fender 1 meg pots and .047mfd Orange Drop cap,a switchcraft jack and a black electrosocket jack plate.They all fit like a dream, no routing! I changed the nut to a black Tusq and added black Fender pickguard screws. I customized (perm ink) over the white in the B/W/B pickguard and added a ebony thumb rest.

I am still looking for decent black drop in tuners (would love lollipops). Then hoping to add a black string through drop in bridge (a pain to locate,.. no luck so far), black string tree, LaBella Tapewounds, and if I ever get a call back from Fred H,... the main event,... a Darkstar pick up. But i must say I am loving the stock up too!

I really like my 50's P its on like page 2 of this thread, it had a seymour duncan sp-3 , but to let you know that pickup is way to high output for me. I think the bass sound fine stock , i guess depending on what you want out of the bass it maybe worth it to change,

Thanks! that is good to know. I do love it as is... maybe I'll forgo the pick up change, get some better stings on her and be done! I must say I love the CV line.

I'm new here, but count me in, CV 60s Jazz aquired in October '08.

I got it to have a 60s-style rosewood board Jazz to complement my maple board American Series Jazz.

Great bass, the only mods I've made are a black pickguard and setup for TI Flats.

I'm seriously considering going for a CV 60s P.

The neck I just sold is the same way. When I first saw it I thought what sort of chance does that give me? but I really like the smaller frets vs the medium jumbo that is so common these days. the frets on the CV jazz are very comfortable and easy to play...
