2 words, green scrubbie....or wet sand...either will get the job done. But the scrubbie is decidedly less messy and a lot easier.

Buff up the back of the neck and it makes a world of difference! The neck on my CV had that treatment, then a good wax job and it was fantastic! I may do the wax to all my necks! I do not care for glossy necks, so I buff em all nearly to a satin, and like them that way. But the wax makes them really, really fast and smooth. (now if I could only remember what wax was used.....

I got one a few weeks ago. I have plenty of basses (mainly Rickenbackers and Waterstones) and I've set up and played plenty of "P" basses (some good vintage ones too), but never owned one. And I did not want to go through the learning curve of "which one to get" The 60s classic vibe "P" Is well speced, un fussy and I love the lack of weight.
I switched the Capacitor to one of those Russian PIO types (It now has a "Tone" knob and not just two volume knobs) and added a treble bleed cap in the volume pot. I also set little rubies into the knobs as markers (I like to see where the settings are)
The pickup is potent and needs to be tamed with carefull height adjustment.

They are really onto something with these basses and I'm proud to say "It's a Squier"

I just checked the Squier web site. It looks like the Fiesta Red version comes with brass bridge saddles... and without the chrome bridge cover.

Thats pretty cool because when i first got my sonic blue one i had just sold my CV jazz and i was mad because i was wishing i would have put the Jazz's bridge on my P because the jazz had brass saddles. I also ditched my bridge cover on my P so now i have the holes , ha now i want the red one.


Just so everyone knows that has not looked the CV bridge is solid metal, its not hollow which was a surprise to me because i paid 40$ for a gotoh 201 bridge awhile ago and although it was high mass it was hollow so it did not have any more weight really compared to a standard bridge, the CV is solid so i value its bridge at being 40$ or more, there nice bridges.

Please forgive my ignorance as I am still somewhat new to bass playing.....

I have a CV 60s P-bass that I am totally enjoying and learning how to play. I have changed out the stock strings for a set of GHS Precision flats as I really like a fuller, deep, 60s tone.

What effect would changing out the stock pots for a set of Fender CTS 250 POTS have on the tone for the CV (Fender part 0990831000)?

Not worth the effort unless there's something wrong with the stock electronics, IMO.

Yep, won't make any difference. The stock pots are 250's.

Well, sign me up.

I walked into Long and Mcquade yesterday and saw this beauty on the wall and after reading all the great reviews around here I knew she had to be mine. Can't believe the quality so far. The action is super low on it, completely buzz free, neck is straight as an arrow, everything is great. I love the feel of the neck, just a little thinner than a typical P, which is perfect for me. It's not very heavy either. Just a great bass all around. Took it to a gig last night, blown away. This is my first P bass. I've got 3 jazz basses; an older mexican one with duncan 1/4 pounders in it, a '73 american, and a geddy lee. I love my jazzes, but this P is what I've been trying to make them sound like for years.

The pickup in it is super punchy, I'm just loving how it sounds. It's amazing the range of tones you can get out of that one pickup just by using the single tone knob and your fingers. The bridge on this bass is great too. I really don't like the standard Fender bridges for a whole bunch of reasons, but this one feels really solid and so far I like it. The figuring of the maple on the neck is gorgeous. The tinted stain really brings it out nicely. I wish fender would offer that on more of their basses.

My only beef so far would be how much of a pain in the arse it was to peel off that layer of plastic on the pickguard! Anyone else encounter that? I ended up having to take off the knobs and strings and take out the screws to get it all off.

Sorry the pics aren't great, can't seem to find my decent camera right now. The fiesta red is definitely on the pink side of the spectrum.

marklaforest, that's a beeyooteeful bass! Congrats. I'm sure I'd love to own one. The only thing I'd change is swap the stock black pickup cover for a cream one, and the look would be complete!

Seems to me these CV basses are a little *too* good, i.e., they are likely to cannibalize sales of MIM
Fenders, to which they really are comparable to or even superior.

Thanks bro! I was actually thinking the same thing, and I even happen to have some cream covers kicking around. I was also thinking of swapping the pickguard for a black one, there's just something about tortoise shell pickguards that I don't like.

You're totally right about the digging into the MIM sales... I was planning on buying the MIM one in this colour but couldn't really justify spending the money, then this one came out at less than half the price. I do like the maple neck on the MIM, but for this price I'll go rosewood.

Black pickguard would indeed look nice. Or how about black mirror or black pearl?

Fortunately for me, I already have a MIM Lake Placid Blue Jazz with a maple board, so this bass would be the perfect companion to that.
