Squier Classic Vibe Telecaster Bass

Saw there are pre orders for this on Sweetwater.
Any thoughts on this style of bass?

I have one of the first run they did years ago. It’s a great bass. While the Fender pickup is thick, do not expect it to be a mudbucker clone. There is definitely more definition in the sound of the Fender over my mudbucker equipped EBO. I have mine strung up the TI Jazz flats and they are a perfect match for the Telecaster.

I just saw the mocha one and I really wish I needed that kind of tone rn .... dayum
I'm right there with ya'! My first P-Bass had the same finish, and I'm still in love. :p

Great choice! TI Flats played with a pick rock on everything! ;)
The wide range buckers in my Starcaster are anything but muddy, but that neck position should keep it fairly dark and thumpy. Playing closer to the bridge should brighten it up.
Aaaaaaaaand, TI Flats played with a pick on the Starcaster are amazing.

Starcaster is a great bass. Built solid, neck is great and the short scale is way cool. Now, if it weighed a few pounds less .... perfect!

I got to try the Vintera version in the shop. I was super surprised! I thought the pickup and pickup position would give a really boomy, muddy, EB-0 kind of sound. Not at all, in my opinion! Which is what others are saying above.

I mean, you could get that sound, but it does a lot more. Just like how Jamerson tone is not the only thing you can get from a split P.

I can't quite describe the sound. P bass plus an extra oomph. Kind of woody and hollow.

And it's so beautiful. Now that I've tried the Vintera, I've been GASing hard for it, but out of my budget. So the Squier is very tempting.

I haven't gotten to try the Squier. I wonder if they are using the CV 50s neck, in which case it will probably be awesome.

As usual, the punchline is, you'll have to try it yourself in the shop to know. Which is a bummer for the great many of us who don't live near a well-stocked shop (more and more, as it gets harder and harder to run a local shop...)

First off... I love the look of the Tele bass. But I've never owned, or played one.
The fact that this one is a Squier is meaningless to me. Squier makes good stuff.
But having fought the mudbucker wars in the 70s on a number of Gibsons, Its weird to consider "Gibson-ising " a Fender bass.
I can only assume that the humbucker in these is not an old school Sidewinder/Mudbucker. Especially since its placed in the "slammed against the neck" position ala Gibson.
I guess this would give you a "plays like a Fender, sounds like Gibson" vibe?🤔
Unless that pickup is an entirely different animal. 🤷‍♂️

Never liked the look when they originally came out in ‘72, awkward. I’m all about the ‘51/‘54 P and ‘68 Tele.
But I will say, for a period I had this very bass in my possession, some of their US gear being stored at my house…

..and I liked the neck(in spite of it being 3-bolt), not so baseball bat thick.
