Squier CV 60 Precision mods

I swap the CV 60p's stock himass bridge to the vintage thread saddle bridge.
The stock bridge is wider screw to screw hole than vintage.
I use the middle hole as center guide, fill the other hole. Then place the vintage bridge and drill tiny hole first before put the screw. That's is easy.

Why i change the bridge? The himass brass saddle bridge kill the classic organic P bass tone. I have mention in other thread before, i found the stock pickup sound unbalance and weird problem. However i done a correct pickup height with nice setup, the A string is still louder than other string; G string sound tiny and weak. E string have muddy lower note from F, F# and G.

I do a lot thing to try to solve the problem include change pickup and string in this few years. Finally i solve it in this May 2015.

And no need worried about sustain, the vintage bridge keep the sustain well.

If you guy have the same problem like mine with your CV 60p, change the bridge first. Stock pup is sound good but the pure vintage 63pup is Better!!
Which material did you use to fill the holes which could subsequently easily be bored by the bridge screws?

I did the same..swapped the high mass for the vintage style. Anyways, I used a wooden dowl with Titebond glue. Was easier than I thought it was going to be. Just take your time. Plug and glue one day and install the next. Got the advice from Yahboy.

Hi there!
Would anyone know what the stock pickup in this bass is?
I have read it is a fender custom shop, alnico 5 pickup.

I wish it was the custom’62, but that would be almost 1/3 the price of the bass, so I doubt it...

In any case, how would the stock compare to the custom’62 or a top pickup, for that matter?

Tks!

Apparently it comes with:
1 Custom Precision Bass® Split Single-Coil Pickup with AlNiCo V Magnets

Tks
For sure it’s not a Fender Custom Shop ‘62 split coil pickup ... other than that I believe nobody knows what the Chinese put inside those basses exactly ... it may be AlNiCo whatever but if it sounds ok is good

I swapped out the stock CV pickups for Fender Original 62s. Those pickups are great, but in retrospect. I would have just keep the stock pickups. I have it strung with Labella Jameson set flats so I think it would have been fine.

I heard somewhere that these were toneriders but I can neither find that thread not confirm it’s accuracy.
Knowing China well, I’d find it strange that the guys there buys pickups from outside China ... very strange

I believe they are produced by the Chinese facility that manufactures for tonerider so they may be unlabeled toneriders. Again, this is just something that I read which is likely speculation. They are good alnico pickups.

Wilde P46
Aged cream pearl pg.

That’s it. I really don’t notice the wider spacing at all but never play south of the pickup. Changing the bridge is a pretty easy project. Do like Yahboy says. Just don’t over tighten the screws. Tight is tight; you can’t get more tight working with wood, you only begin damaging the wood. Good and snug is all you need. When the driver tip starts to torque up and out of the head, it’s tight. Always snug all screws when cleaning, etc.

The P46 is a revelation but the stock pickup was really good. I only changed it because i wanted to try the P46. It’s amazing.

The stock tuners are actually really good: much better than the VM tuners. The buttons are riveted, the chrome is heavy, no burrs, smooth. They have a small footprint so they’re not too heavy compared to many other all metal vintage types. Although, idk if the tuners they currently use are the same as my 2010. Your newer cv have these?

My stock tuners are rounder.
I am thinking of a drop d for my e string, had indications on hipshot bt1 and bt7, not sure which would be a better fit.

Ok, so they’re not the same as they were a few years back. They have that skinny pinch in the shafts and no rivets. Too bad. The earlier type are really good.

In past, someone mention stock CV 60P pickups are OEM by Tonrider . But she has different voice compare to Real Tonerider TRP1 on my CV60P.

The stock pickup sound Scoop with smoother tone. G string sound thin and the A string just too high output.
Meanwhile the Tonerider TRP1 has better balance tone from E to G. E string has better clean and focus ,plus the G string are full sounding.
Both pickup sound sweet but just different.

If you feel your Aguilar AG4P60 lack some grind, you should try Tonerider TRP1. To my ear and own Aggy in past, TRP1 are aggressive version of AG4P60. Yes, the price are absolutely cheap.

There are 2 colour version on CV bass tuning machines. Earlier are chrome, the later/current MIC are nickel coat. Same on intonation screws and strap button.
Chrome are better resistance from sweat than nickel coat version. I swap my chrome to nickel and I found the oxidation effect appear on elephant ears after few months.

My experience share. Tq

Thanks. Yes nickel oxidizes rapidly and looks relic. I like it.
