Squier CV Jaguar Bass replacement pickups

Hi!

I have one of these basses coming my way, but I want to replace the pickups with something hotter. I am considering this set from Aguilar or this Seymour Duncan set, but have a question. The Jaguar comes with two concentric pots; Vol/Tone for P pickup and Vol/Tone for J pickup. Will I get _exactly_ the same functionality with replacement pickups as the stock pickups, or will only one of the tone pots work if that makes sense?

I am kinda new to this, but try to learn. Thanks in advance!

I have the 30' and 34' Jag basses and love them both. I wanted the '32 but they are out of stock and not expecting new deliveries with factories being shut down. Expect to be pleasantly surprised. I have a hunch that the Jags are Fender/Squier's little secret. I may mod one or both of them but for now they both sound pretty great. I'd also like to hear suggestions about PJ after market pickups. My (limited) experience with Aguilar's is that they sound too clean.

What kind of (I assume heavy) music do you play? Always remember that getting “hot” pickups will raise some unwanted bass frequencies in your sound. Hence if you want something clear sounding then go for the standard wind option.
That being said i’m not a fan of any QP pickup. To my ears they accentuate the wrong frequencies. IME they sound glassy AND bassy at the same time, which I didn’t think was possible...
Between the two choices i’d definitely go for the Aguilars. The humcanceling set of theirs (at least the Jazz Bass ones) sound a little too trebly though.

As a general TB rule, Fralins are the end-all be-all of P and J pickups, but is always contested against Lollars and Nordstrands here and there. Also, the Duncan SPB-1 and SJB-1 are pretty much the staple step-ups when it comes to risk-free pickup swaps. LOL.

I have a set of the Aguilar PJ’s and Duncan PJ’s in my P Bass Specials. Aggies are warm and sound closer to upright. Duncan’s are in your face! I have The CV Jag and just love the 32” neck. It’s between, Frankins, Aguilar, Nords and DiMarzios. I will upgrade the pots and harness as well. I know the Aggies have V/Split/ Tone as the default wiring. Has anyone upgraded the pots with the stock stacked knobs? I find the stock pups to be quite hot. Would love to hear any other mods and the experience with them. I am very happy with the range of tone from the split stack. Wondering how each of the pups above will respond in this setup.

Here's the great thing about Fender and Squier: EVERYBODY makes replacement parts for these axes.

Just BE SURE and measure them first: Precision pickups are virtually always the same size / drop-in replaceable, but Jazz pickups can vary (sometimes they use two of the same size instead of the classic arrangement where the bridge pickup is slightly wider than the neck pickup). So just be sure once you have it, you double-check your measurements before you hit the BUY button.

You might also consider something I did on my Squier Jazz, what I call 'take out' pickups: I found a pair of as-new Fender Yosemites that a guy had taken out of a brand new Fender and got them for $50 bucks (they're $120 new). I got a great deal on these and they sound great. You just never know what's out there.

I'm coming in two years late on this post, but I'm seriously considering buying a 32" Jaguar bass. Do you like yours? Do you still have it?
