There seem to be some minor differences in the two Squier Classic Vibe Precision Bass offerings from Fender. The Lake Placid Blue looks like it has different saddles and neck finish than the Butterscotch Blonde and I can't tell for sure but there may also be a difference in the pickups and the body wood and maybe other not so obvious differences.

I've tried the LP Blue bass at one of the Guitar Centers and really liked the sound and feel but haven't seen any of the Butterscotch ones around to compare it with.

Has anyone tried both of these basses and if so do you have any observations on differences between the two (beyond the obvious color please)?

I think the only difference is the tint on the neck of the blonde one and the body wood (pine on the blonde and basswood on the LPB). I would doubt that they'd use different hardware or electronics on these.

yes body wood, finish, neck finish and the LPB has the non-brass saddles on the HiMass bridge (first Gen CVs only the 60s J had the brass - orignal LBP 50s and Sonic Blue 60s had the non brass - the 60s had the cover)

A few differences. The blue bass is basswood body and I'm not a fan of basswood-it don't feel it is a good, 'musical' wood.
I purchased the butterscotch 51 precision and I love it! Its body is pinewood and the wood shows thru. (leo fender made his original guitars from pinewood). It has a hi mass bridge that helps with sustain and the pickup is pretty nice. I believe these pickups are made for fender by the same company that makes tone riders so good sound here too. I ended up replacing the pickup with a 51 seymour duncan pup and now the thing really sings. The quality is incredibly high for a chinese squier....Much better than anything out of mexico, korea or indonesia... IMO the quality and feel of this is like a US made fender bass. The neck is like butter.....the vintage tint on neck, butterscotch body...this think looks and plays great.....best valued bass I've found.....ya...I'm in love :)

Very helpful, thanks for the reply. Is the back of the neck a high gloss on the Blonde (like the blue bass) or is it a satin finish? The gloss on the blue bass looked great but I'm not fond of glossy neckbacks as they have a tendency to get a little slower when your hands start to sweat.
