Just got one and I love it...hopefully in the future I can put some nice pickups and electrons.

Squier Deluxe Jazz Active V -- Unbelieveable Bass!

Ive been rockin my SJDAV since May 08 and still absolutely love it. (no mods necessary)
So far, Ive had her strung with the original Fenders, DAddario XL-170-5 and now Fodera Diamond Series SS 45,65,85,100,130 (love these strings).
This bass gets 95% of my playing time, the other 3 like collecting dust

Anyone tried putting pickguards on their five stringer?
Does not look like there's a direct replacement available.

Got one of these on the way, looks like the one posted by rptrsn2.
I've been thinking of putting a guard on it too, along with a control plate to look like a standard Jazz. Also considering routing the body to make it a PJ.

Very good sound
I prefer the standard jazz look but I don't know if I'll mess with this one much. I mean it's just close to perfect so why bother changing the looks? pablomigraine already did some nice mods to it and I must say he got it just right!

Its got a Bart NTMB 5.2 pre and Bart pickups and sounds incredible and also plays great but I dont like the feel. Its too light - does that make sense. Just something I dont like about it. Dissapointed.

Too light weight? Or sound is thin and light?
No the sound is incredible! Very clear and punchy with tons of bottom but still all the clarity you want. A combo of the ebonol board and basswood body I guess. Awesome sound, just dont like how the bass feels. Im a bit used to heavy basses and also the fretboard is a little flatter than im used to. Thats why i'm disappointed.

Feel for me personally - not too great. Enough for me to want to sell it off.

I found a a pair of Basslines and I gave it a first thought to buy them cause they are a direct fit replacement pf the stock pups, but before I give it a go, I thought it would be a good idea to try another make of strings. So I fited a set of Warwick steels on, and I was astonished by the sound!!! Tons of punch and clarity with the emg preamp!!! wooooooooowwwwwwwwwwwww!!!!!!!!!! I m telling you guys, these stock pups have nothing to be jealous of top branded ones. Really.... just go for a good preamp and you will be surprised...
Im actually happy with my stock electronics. I am using DR Black Beauties. The tone is perfect for a 60's reggae/ska gig im doing. I was thinking stock pups with an Aguilar OBP3.
Quick and a bit crappy playing, just to give you an idea about what the bass sounds like with EMG preamp, stock pups, and Warwick steels 40-130. Recorded direct to a digital mixer, flat eq on the strip. Both pups balanced, flat mids just a tad roll of the lows on the bass preamp.
