Squier Jaco Bass -- Hmm

I played one of these today. I was shocked at how good it was for the price. It is a very sold jazz bass at a great price. btw, the burst is not as dark in person; its actually a faily attractive bass.

I have one layed away with a drumset for my daughter. Although my "bass owning ego" wants me to get a Cirrus, I know that froma practical standpoint, this little fretless can really fill a gap in my collection that another five, even one as nice as a Cirrus, cannot.

its a bit of joke really, fender only offer freltess basses wit rosewood boards but when squire does one they get teh right idea and use ebanol

you know they piss me off doing stuff like that!! esspecially with the COLORS and matching pickgaruds and stuff... squier basses(and guitars) always have every damn awesome color combo you could want.... but fenders?!? no..... you buy the plain one.... and mix and match... spending another 100$ on them...

I was lucky to just find this (well I think I was lucky anyway) and I just purchased it on Ebay.

The only one listed and I couldn't find it online anywhere else. Although the big dealers are expecting them at the end of September. I love the looks on this thing. Should be fun. I've never had a fretless with lines before, so I hope this doesn't throw me off. I'll give a full review in this thread after playing with it for a few days, which will include using it during at least one band practice. I imagine I should receive it by next weekend.

Considering that ~75 percent of the (not immediately fixable) problems I see on cheapo basses are related to the frets, a squier fretless may be a great value..

I just found this bass in the local music store, and it had come shipped with round-wounds, and the fretboard was all ripped up from people noodling on it......are they shipping rounds on these basses?

Like to hear from other people....they really should ship them with flat wounds.

Yes, they ship with rounds. I bought mine new from an Ebay dealer. I absolutely hate flatwounds. By far the majority of bassists use rounds, including fretless players. Granted they are hard on the fingerboard, but they sound better than flats.

I actually prefer GHS Pressurewounds. They don't tear up the fingerboard, but they have more of the roundwound 'zing' than flats do.

I use flats, too. I guess it really comes down to who I'll be playing with.

Maybe Squier's quality is starting to come back.

The Japanese-made ones were, I've heard / seen, absolutely awesome.

Yeah, I'm sick of Squier getting all the cool color combos. Stock mirrored pickguards, crazy screened graphics...
