I put standard chrome Tele knows on mine, they look good (I think) with the silver.

@GoLeafsGo I was thinking either chrome Telecaster knobs or black Les Paul style knobs. I love that see through epoxy kinda thing. The threading for the knobs is just the standard 6mm then? (e: this would be rather easy to find out myself, I'm just not home right now. So I'll check once I get home.)
Is there a recommended dealer for knobs/pickguard screws/little parts and tchotchkes like that? I saw that StewMac had a good collection of knobs for sale. Trying to move away from Amazon so it's either a smaller online dealer or going to a store for me.
Today I am wondering about my bridge. I think I may have raised it slightly instead of lowering it. Righty tighty lefty loosey right? So right turns should tighten, lowering the bridge. I wonder if I'm misunderstanding the direction. It's a hard measurement to take with a machinist's ruler. I don't know. It still feels okay but I'd like it to be as low as possible. I'll futz with it some more. It's not like I'm unhappy with its current place. Nor is it like I'm anywhere near my bass right now. I feel better about doing the actual adjustment, though.

I went with the chrome tele knobs too. Not sure what the stock size knob is, as I replaced the pots at the same time.
Turning bridge set screws clockwise raises the string on most bridges I've encountered.

Then what I was thinking was true -- I was fundamentally misunderstanding the mechanism itself, and trying to apply my own limited knowledge.
I've watched tons of setup guides - the Dingwall guide, a couple of other youtube ones, and I've read through that huge Ultimate Bass Setup PDF that's available for free distribution, and I learned how to go through the motions of setting up a bridge, but the way I was assuming the mechanism worked - tightening the screw would bring it closer to the body, right? - was faulty.

I thought the guide was fine and had a ton of info but don't know anything about the websites or the person. Just performing my civic duty.)
I'll do it the right way when I get home....
e: I'm pretty sure I broke the bridge to my bass.
I give up on doing anything that might bring me any joy.

First time I ordered new pick guard screws, I went to Long & McQuade (like Guitar Center in Canada) and they ordered them for me, when I got them, saw that they had ordered them from StewMac, so now I just order everything (ashtrays, knobs, screws, etc.) directly from there. Enjoy your mods, and we need to see a pic when you are done!

It is a bit like Stewmac, but Canadian operated. Faster (and sometimes cheaper) than StewMac. They carry less stuff though, but I usually find what I need.

Anyone stick a Warmoth neck on a ss jag body? I see some loaded bodies for sale and I've always wanted to try one of the Warmoth roasted maple necks.
I looked at my bass again this morning and think there may be some problems with a couple saddles. I needed my bridge key from my Ibanez to be able to adjust them. Otherwise they just wouldn't go no matter how much I turned.
It's not broken but I'm just going to bring my bass in for a setup.
I'm not experienced enough to troubleshoot getting the rest of the buzz out of the bass, and my action is higher than I ever wanted it trying to compensate.

It's already got the gold screws, but I think a gold pickguard might be a gold-step too far.
Just a word of warning, if you're about to start modding your Jag - I bought mine new for £210.00 here in the UK, and I've now spent just under £300.00 on modding it. I've finally got a £500.00 bass, the hard way.

Some places will let you watch them do the set up, once you have seen it done properly, it becomes less daunting....
I've been inspired by this thread to mod my SS Jag, I'm gonna build another body so as not to destroy the original. I thought I had a body blank lying around but I remember giving it away so I'll need to make another. Here's the idea, body in metallic white pearl, two Stingray pick ups with the upper row of pole pieces on the bridge pick up level with where the J ones are, and the lower row of pole pieces level with the upper row on the P, making them slightly further apart for more tonal range. SG Standard style scratchplate, the smaller one as fitted to 66-69 models, with Telecaster control plate coming out of the bottom of it, vol, tone, three way switch. Tune o matic bridge and stop tailpiece and through body stringing, and due to the popularity it would be rude not to add racing stripes!

What it really needs is a gold control plate, but I haven't been able to find one. I already paid the equivalent of $40+ for the pick-guard that's on it now. There's no chance that I'm going to throw it away and put a gold one on.

Get another Jag SS and put it on that one.
