Get another Jag SS and put it on that one.![]()
I actually called Fender to ask about the status of these. Yep, discontinued as of January this year. My guess is maybe they cannibalized the Mustang P/J market too much?
Thanks for the heads up on the Jag SS Being discontinued! They had one in silver at my local Mom and pop music store so I pulled the trigger! I sold my Fender Mustang because I liked my Jag better. It seems Zzounds has them in stock. Will post pics of the new bass when I pick it up.I don't know if any of you have looked around for these in the last week but there aren't all that many online any more. I am still seeing the $199 price on the silver a couple places and a few used ones here and there but that's about it. Amazon still has a couple of the red ones but the prices are higher than $199. It's really something! One of the Fender people I talked to either on the phone or via email told me if they were announcing any kind of replacement it would be at NAMM fwiw, which I hope means this summer.
I am sorely tempted to pick up another one.
LAUREGAMI, hope your setup goes well! I still need to take my Mustang in for that (it came disassembled in a single-ply refrigerator box filled with pink styrofoam peanuts and I'm amazed nothing got lost in transit. Between my friend and I it's set up decently but I think a pro could do better!). Tempted to replace bridge. I put a Badass bridge on my ancient Jazz bass back in the day (the one in my avatar) and am wondering if I want to make a move like that with either of my SS babies.
Very nice!I finally got around to fitting my ashtray.

Just bought a Silver SS! WAS INSPIRED BY THE PHOTO OF YOUR BASS!Thanks!
I really like the Aguilars. They have a nice classic p bass sound and fix the wimpy stock j bass. With the flat wounds they give a nice punch/thud (I mostly use the P bass pickup) while the hipshot bridge gives me a bit more sustain than the stock bridge, if needed. I'm very happy with this modded bass, though I do roll off the bass eq on my amp (or zoom b3 effects pedal) because I've found as a short scale it can lose some of the Aguilars' nice mids.
Love the Silver! Was able to get a Silver SS TODAY!Happy owner of a short scale Jaguar. I started playing with a used Ibanez that I had gotten, and wanted to get something that was mine, instead of something that was a cheap way to start playing bass. Required very little setup out of the box. I loved the red, but my other bass is cherry red so the silver won me over. I love it with the rainbow strap. Could I get a number, please?
I want to try some of the modifications to add some power to the jazz pickup, and maybe swap some parts. I think a set of bridge and pickup covers would look quite nice on it. I also still have the stock strings on it, which I need to swap out.
edit: Speaking of buying new strings, does anyone know the proper string sizes for this bass, or recommended? I seem to have lost the little slip that came with the thing. But it looks like someone above is using 45-100 gauge strings. Also, I just remembered the word "gauge".
....I noticed something strange about the bridge on my Jag when I looked at it again today. The entire saddle for the E-string was being pulled up, toward the edge of the bridge. I wish I had taken a picture. I pushed it a little and it made a resounding *snap* noise, not like something breaking but like something going into place....
Good for you! Just scored one in Silver!!Awesome!! I propose we make sub-groups within the club. Team Red, Team Silver, Team Black. Then we'll have enough fodder to bicker amongst ourselves for ages!!

I'm tempted to try yet another round of setup on it with the Dingwall guide, but I will resist temptation and let a pro do their work. Maybe my bridge is shagy after all. Even if I have to swap the bridge, I'm never letting go of this Jaguar.
