I just ordered a standard P bass one from StewMac…..fits fine, looks cool! (see a couple of pages back for pic)
Fits the stock bridge just fine, Hi-mass HipShot and other thicker bridges, not so much.
Hi ya! I just picked up one of these babies a couple weeks ago -- $195.00 delivered to my door. I am astounded at what a nice little bass this is for the price! I haven't done anything to mine but add a sticker from Vladivostok. At first I thought I'd change the strings to the ground wounds I like but after playing it for a while I think I will leave it alone for now.
I actually called Fender to ask about the status of these. Yep, discontinued as of January this year. My guess is maybe they cannibalized the Mustang P/J market too much? I have one of those too, and I love it, but I feel like the VM SS Jag is a real steal.

Get another Jag SS and put it on that one.
I'm really unhappy to say, that was my first thought. Not gonna happen though.
That's a shame. I'm glad I picked up mine when I did, then. I guess we're among the last members of the club...
Update from earlier: I didn't give up. I'm sorry, I was having a very bad day that day. There is a luthier downtown who works on orchestral instruments, and while I've been anxious about bringing in something electric, there's a ton of crossover anyway. The price is reasonable so I am looking forward to visiting on Friday.

I don't know if any of you have looked around for these in the last week but there aren't all that many online any more. I am still seeing the $199 price on the silver a couple places and a few used ones here and there but that's about it. Amazon still has a couple of the red ones but the prices are higher than $199. It's really something! One of the Fender people I talked to either on the phone or via email told me if they were announcing any kind of replacement it would be at NAMM fwiw, which I hope means this summer.
I am sorely tempted to pick up another one.

I still need to take my Mustang in for that (it came disassembled in a single-ply refrigerator box filled with pink styrofoam peanuts and I'm amazed nothing got lost in transit. Between my friend and I it's set up decently but I think a pro could do better!). Tempted to replace bridge. I put a Badass bridge on my ancient Jazz bass back in the day (the one in my avatar) and am wondering if I want to make a move like that with either of my SS babies.

Thanks for the heads up on the Jag SS Being discontinued! They had one in silver at my local Mom and pop music store so I pulled the trigger! I sold my Fender Mustang because I liked my Jag better. It seems Zzounds has them in stock. Will post pics of the new bass when I pick it up.

I noticed something strange about the bridge on my Jag when I looked at it again today. The entire saddle for the E-string was being pulled up, toward the edge of the bridge. I wish I had taken a picture. I pushed it a little and it made a resounding *snap* noise, not like something breaking but like something going into place.
I'm tempted to try yet another round of setup on it with the Dingwall guide, but I will resist temptation and let a pro do their work. Maybe my bridge is shagy after all. Even if I have to swap the bridge, I'm never letting go of this Jaguar.

Sometimes a string can be sitting on the saddle itself, instead of in the groove in the saddle.
That's the exact sound it'll make when it snaps into place. It could have been something else though too.
