I had EMG Geezers installed on my new Jag short scale (2 years ago) along with flats right after I bought it and I have been really happy with the sound ever since. At age 56, it was my first bass, so I did not have a clue (haha, still don't) but I only went that route after seeing so many people on TB reviewing the Jag and talking about what a great bargain it was- except for the stock pickups. (and I kept hearing about Duncans or Geezers)
I normally play at home primarily with headphones, but in the last 6 months have put together a once a month band practice so I get an opportunity to plug into a big boy amp and this little guitar can really shake the walls when you crank up the volume a bit! I have since added a Gretsch Jr Jett with round wounds for some variety, and just placed an order for the new Sterling Stingray short scale, but regardless, my Jag will continue to stay in heavy rotation for what I am trying to do. (I was sad to hear the Jag has been discontinued)
There's a new Squier Jaguar in town. But it's 32" scale, has stacked knobs, and the price is jacked up.
I'd really like to try one though, and if I fall for it, I'd pick one up when they're on sale.

Yeah.... while I think I'd like a 32" scale Jag it'll probably retail around $800-1000 here in NZ.
You can say that again. Several Squiers jumped from $350 to $400 overnight not too long ago.
Ooooh a medium scale? That would be fun! I don't own one of those.
I have my Mustang PJ in the shop right now for some mods and a setup but am looking down the road to my Jaguar VM SS. I haven't played it with a band enough to notice the pickups one way or another (I will tonight due to the PJ being in the shop). What I notice about it that I'd like to address are: the tuners. They are just kind of shaky. Also, it's kind of neck-heavy so I'd probably want to put a high mass bridge on it (as I have with the PJ -- balanced it beautifully).
Any recommends on tuners? I've never gotten into that before -- this is the first time I've had tuners where I've gone, huh, these are kind of fiddly and loose (maybe I should try tightening them. Hmmm).
Kinda kicking myself for not having picked up a second one of these when I easily could.

I'm contemplating a colour change on my SS jaguar.
Currently it's gloss black with a tort pickguard.
I had a seafoam green strat which I regretably let go last year.
Thought maybe I'd get my jaguar refinished in a similar colour, then I found this ....
Also thinking Surf green as an alternative.
Or keep it original ?

I'm generally a fan of black with a black guard...... but that green with the black guard looks brilliant!
I had Hipshot Ultralight tuners put on both my jag SS and feel they made a big difference in tuning smoothness and stability and neck dive. The Basses balance nicely now and are a whole 1/2 pound lighter. Now I'm considering adding them to my Mustang PJ too.
If I knew how to refinish a guitar I would definitely do it. Surf green is one of my favorite colors too. Of course, I love surf music too - The Ventures, The Astronauts, The Chantays and all of those old first wave surf bands.
Hi, am after some suggestions for good, bright sounding strings for my Jaguar, have tried pro steels but for some reason tonally that were not a good match and they actually sounded kind of dull , wondering what rounds people have had good results with,
Also, are there any good replacement tuners that drop in without modification/drilling new holes?

I just put on some DR sunbeams because I wanted a warmer string set. DR makes some hex core sets that are bright. DR Highbeams might be a fit for you. Go with a 45-105 set so the E doesn't flop.
I just came across this video by the band Peaness in which the bass player is playing a black Jag VMSS. Nice to see one in action!
Just out of interest, anyone use theirs in D tuning (DGCF or drop D) how did it work out? What gauge strings did you use?
For roundwounds, You're gonna want at least a 105 for the low E (D), though a 110 or even 115 would be better and not as floppy. Flatwounds are a bit stiffer.
