I had a bass like that and it never felt secure. Like it was going to slide off my shoulders.
As always, a wide / grippy strap helps. Anyway just a suggestion, but it really works well for me.
I fixed it! I moved the back strap button up a couple inches and put the one from the horn on the underside of the neck plate area. Looks a little weird, but its perfectly balanced now. Yay! Commence rocking!
As soon as I get home. Its crazy looking though. And there are a couple random screws where I tried and it wasn't quite right.
Has anyone tried Labella deep taking flats 39-96 on this bass? If so can you tell me about the tension, and sound?
I'm having some issues with my Jaguar. I'm already planning on doing the magnet mod for the weak j pickup, but has anyone had trouble with their P pickup being too hot? Or something. It distorts really badly, especially on the E. I've turned the gain on my amp down as far as it will go, and lowered the pickups as far as they would go, and still it distorts. Is this just a trait of P pickups? I've only played a jazz in the past.
Would a change of pickups help? I'm already getting new strings. Medium gauge, as it came with some pretty light ones. What would the next step be?

Same problem here on open E. Dropping the P-Pup slightly got rid of the worst of it, and it doesn't really come through in a jam, but it's still there.
P90 - so a fix is to keep the P-Pup volume knob from going too high? Interesting.
That's what I've been doing too, but I feel like it loses a little oomph that way. I can boost it back up with my preamp, but I don't know. I REALLY notice it with some fuzz on. The same fuzz that sounds chunky and defined on my jazz bass or my j pickup on the jag sounds mushy and synthy (not in a good way) on the p pickup. I hate it, because this was an impulse buy and now I'm regretting it a bit.
I only played it one gig, since then we had no rehearsal...
but what I found out the few minutes I could test it before the gig was that is was at least way better.
as I said, ist hard to believe that a PU can distort an OP amp input, which means it has to exceed +/- 13V Peak voltage!
just try it! and if you find it ok but want to play with an fully open vol. knob, you can wire a resistor between the PU and Vol.pot
another way I'm thinking of is to use the J-PU pot (just for a test) and plug it parallel to the P-PU. the more you reduce the resistance of the pot, the more you "shortcut" the signal of the P-PU. in theory it will first lose treble before it will lose volume, but it maybe worth a try...
Just as a 'YMMV' - no problems with distortion here, and I have my pickups quite high. Any amp that distorted from the output of a passive pickup would be straight in the dumpster.
If it was a tube amp it may only need the first stage preamp tube replaced, in that case you can give it to me.
