No worries. Just wondering what decent flat sounds people are getting. I have chromes on at the moment - feels great but sounds terrible!

Yes. The chromes are what I switched from (too much midrange, and very thin bottom). None of the other basses that I have used these strings on have presented this gross uneveness.
The GHS gives me nearly perfect weight and tone when used on the Jag, being the best that I have heard from this instrument so far!
A question : any reason a Hipshot A with 19mm spacing would be the wrong bridge?
Being a short-scale, it has to be the same spacing as the original.
So is 19mm right? (in case you think I'm an idiot and should just measure it, I don't have the bass with me right now!)
I've been messing a bunch with pickups over the weekend just gone - trying bartolini 8SU, Delano PMVC4FE/M2, and Seymour Duncan Spb3 in the P slot, and bartolini 9J and Dimarzio model J down below.
Result won't surprise anyone : the stock P is fine and didn't give away much to anything I tried; the stock J was improved on a lot by both alternatives. I have the bartolini set in at the moment.

and a Fender '62 RI.
Why not a mustang instead then? (genuine question - asked myself the same!)
You weren't referring to the Squier were you?
Er... probably.... yes?
Well I wouldn't shell out for the fender unless there was something awesomer about it....
