Squier Jaguar Short Scale Club Part 3

I used a bar magnet similar to the one in the write up in AltGrendel's sig, which I found on Amazon for about $7. Seems like round ones should work, but may be tricky to put in place. I put the bar between the plastic cover and the actual pickup. It does look a little weird and I had to remove the springs from under the pickup to lower it. I can feel the magnet pulling at the screwdriver when I adjust it, which does make me wonder if it interferes with string vibration. Still much cheaper and easier than replacing a pickup I probably wouldn't use much.

I agree. That's why I hoped the little round guys would do the trick, but unfortunately, I'm not hearing a difference, so it looks like the bar it is!

Thanks for the help.

Did you happen to try the magnet below the pickup as well? I'm wondering if either placement gives a better result.

I have bought my second Squier Jag SS, and am refinishing it in purple for my wife/bass player's birthday in June. I'm keeping the silver hardware, but am seriously thinking about a new pickguard to set off the new color, and I suppose if there are other upgrades now's the time. What pickguard do you think would look good with the purple (pic is of the color coat before any clear, and doesn't really pick up the subtle sparkle.). White tort? Are the eBay pickguards good? If not, recommendations for sources would be welcome.

I think a pearl guard might look cool. You can get one here: Squier VM Jaguar Bass Pickguard Short Scale 4 Ply White Pearl

I'm not affiliated with them, btw. The price is high, but I'm pretty sure no one else makes a SS guard that'll fit (there are differences for the longer scale basses).

I picked up a black pearl one for my silver Jag, think that would look real good on that!

Well, if I count my labor this is now a $2,000 bass so what's another $50 here or there :)

I think either the black or white pearl would look good - I'll have to flip a coin or something.

My pawn shop rescue Pbass, on the far right in the pic, is a darker purple than yours. Fender Midnight Wine, I think.
It's not the same purple as yours, but maybe would add some perspective. I would say black if you want a subtle effect, pearl white if you prefer bolder.
If you need a better image, I can post one later.

Very nice. Same colour as mine. What did the fret and level and crown do for you in regard to action and playability? Did the D'addarios fit the nut OK?

Well, there was a little issue with the E string, It was going sharp from the nut to about the 4th fret until I widened the notch a smidge. I think the original strings were only .95. as far as action, that 3/32" is the clearance under the strings at the 20th.
