Well, mods have happened to "Shorty" as I'm calling it.

I've installed a CertainBass Varitone circuit in it, the non-blend version. It was from another project that isn't going to happen at this point. I had to swap out the plate, since it comes with a Jazz mounting plate. No issue, it fit on there fine and there was plenty of room in the body route. I'm still playing with the sounds, and so far I like it. I've always felt that the stock electronics were serviceable but cheap. I'm probably going to keep the pups, I like them so far. A lot of Jazz bass sounds hiding in there.

I've also replaced the bridge with a Link Removed. It added sustain but didn't change the overall sound, which is what I was looking for.

Very happy with it.

As promised here are some pics of my Candy Apple Red SS.
There is still plastic covering parts....I leave it on for a while.

I too, have called mine "Shorty"

I have plinked and plucked only a little...no amp yet...but WILL tell you more as I explore this bass.

First off, this thing is flawless, beautiful finish, can't believe it's so nice for the price. The color very deep red...can't tell in pics.

The only thing I noticed so far is the J PU has "sharp" corners and it hurts my right hand when I bump into it. I have very dry "working man" hands. No big deal tho. SO.....here are some pics of some of the details.

I don't know what is on the neck plate...I'm going to go check,
wow, HARD TO BELIEVE, you can see the ceiling fan in the neck plate. The motor looks like it is a small metal button on the plate.

And.....as always, sorry for the crummy cell phone pics. I gotta get a better camera!

I have come across many pickups with sharp corners in my travels. Not sure why that wasn't solved by every manufacturer a long time ago.

When I have come across pickups like that, I have taken a sanding sponge and rounded off the corner. Feels great afterwards.
I guess that will be Mod #1 when mine arrives. :)

[now take that plastic off and play it]

Thanks for the mod idea. If I leave the plastic on the pickguard it stays new a little longer:D

Yea , yea, I'm gonna play it.....BUT...4 new basses in the last 2 months! Yesterday I got a new/used Epi Thunderbird from GC,
and a used fretless Fender J a few weeks ago, and a new SpectorCore fretless.

Which one to play, which one to play?:smug: Plus, my other basses I play anyway....I gotta stop:hiding:

Mine came early. Had a long day, so I didn't have time to put it through much. Still haven't heard it through the amp.

But, I tuned it up and walked the neck. The neck and setup are very sweet. I don't think I have to touch a thing.

Hopefully, I'll still be smiling after it gets plugged in.

First impressions: wow.

So stoked mine will be here tomorrow , hopefully worth the wait and at 144$ sounds like a better deal then a sx by far.

My girlfriend plays guitar in my band , I bought this hoping she would pick up bass as well so i can play my own guitar written songs, at 5 foot nothing she is to small for a 34 inch bass. So she is equally stoked :D

Just did a first plugged in practice with it.

Good stuff. Impressed with the quality of this. Excellent wood - especially the fingerboard. This fingerboard is very, very smooth - making it feel like a much higher end instrument.

One caveat: this bass is Definitely for people who enjoy thin necks. If you like a chunky neck, this is not your bass. If you like a very slim neck, this delivers big time.

I gave mine a workout tonight. No amp. Lowered bridge saddles some. Neck it very straight, nice.
Fretboard IS nice and the frets are overall, finished very nice....maybe some minor touch-ups later.

Also, a possible minor neck shim in the future. I like my strings low.
I was playing Stanley C. licks on it....the bass plays very cool.
Also bending strings....ZERO dead frets. Amazing bass for the money.

It is very comfortable playing in the recliner, shorty.

Machine heads need to be tightend a little.
Controls need to be tightned.
Dunlop Straplocks coming soon.
Have to soften the edges on the PU's.....too sharp for me.
Knobs are a little sharp too...am I too picky?
No issues with the bridge.....no sharp edges.
Yes....the protective plastic is still on....:eyebrow: keeps it cleaner longer.:hiding:
The color, Candy Apple Red is very cool, deep color.
I did remove the stickers;).

I will review mine later , just got it. Sounds and plays great , only issue is small piant crack in the neck pocket. I didnt order from a guitar center type store so returning it may not be possible , i paid 144$ so i shouldnt complain but still not the coolest thing on a new bass.

FWIW, I bought the Rondo hard shell case for short scale basses for $65 with shipping and my Mustang RI fits nicely. It's not the highest quality case, but the Fender seems way overpriced at about $150. I'm probably going to pick up the Jag and mod it with the active P/J pups from my Fender Cowpoke, which was treated to a top end set of Bartolini's and a preamp. Are the tuners for the Jag the same size as standard Fender pegs, and therefore easily upgraded?

I'm not sure about the tuners, they do "look different" from the older cousins..."Fenders".

I haven't done the case switch thing yet(with my basses).
It really needs a nice cheap case or a well padded/fitting gigbag!
