The mounting plate for the tuning machines on the short-scale are smaller than the ones on the full sized Squire Jaguar. Full size Jaguar screw pattern matches Hipshot HB7 as a direct fit. If anyone can confirm a direct fit Hipshot upgrade for the little one....

As an aside, I am thinking of one of these as a shot scale back up for my Gibson EB 2D so I don't have to change from short to long scale at the gig but as to quality, I am assuming (hoping) the quality is high, because I once owned an ESP 404 Spalted maple bass which was made in Indonesia and the quality was absolutely first class.

The finishing was as good as any of the alembic's I owned or played over the years. It surprised me it was that good. I sold it becuase of the EMG pick ups which I did not like.

My question is, Is the quality, fit and finish really good, or hit and miss?

I think the consensus is that it's a really good bass. It's a decent price. The neck on mine was straight and action low right out of the box. There weren't any serious finish flaws on mine, I've since found a dimple in the finish on the headstock, but it's not a show stopper. The pickups are really strong but I thought that the pots were cheap and have replaced them.

I really like mine and have no intention of selling it.

I just ordered a SS in Red for $144. At that price I couldn"t pass it up. Anyone find a good hard shell case for these yet? I do not like gig bagvtreble is turned up and cs. My son just got the $299 Jag (on sale for $249) and even though I have a Vintage Fender P Bass and a 2004 '64 Custom Shop Jazz Relic, I've been playing the Jag all the time. I think it's worth much more than $299. I really had to adjust the truss and the J pu is very noisy when treble is up high and close to amp but still a super bass (very pleasing to the eye too!!!

I've been playing mine tonight during the Tigers Game. What a great bass while watching TV.....fits the chair perfectly.

I used to practice that way all the time growing up...learned lots of commercials and TV tunes!

Also, it's nice and light. I can't hardly pick up my Warwick with one hand....this one is a breeze. (hands are getting arthritic)

Really, other than the sharp PU corners and knobs....it's flawless. It's a great bass!:bassist:

I don't understand what you mean by paint crack In the neck pocket. Did you remove the neck and look in the pocket?

I think we're going to need to keep collecting experiences to know for sure, but I believe the general level of quality and fit and finish here is now a step above many other low end basses made these days. But - at this price point, in these types of factories, I think you Always have to accept hits and misses in some way or another.

To me, as long as the neck is sound and the frets are seated properly, anything else can be *fixed*.

I would personally not care at all if I ordered one, the neck was fine, but it had some paint finish issues. Couldn't care less. To me - that stuff makes it unique.

Well if you owned alot of fenders this is pretty common and its not IN its coming from the side , very small but there , its purely the paint and minor so i am not sweating it.


I was rocking this and my girlfriend showed up and just came in my house and she said it sounded badass, she is a guitar player so i value her opinion she knows good sound verse bad.


They really do sound great , at least mine does, i wouldnt change pickups.

Alot of times when a fender os fender style bass has the neck tightend down they can develop small thin piant cracks running diaganol out of the pocket, there is only one and its very faint on one side not a big deal at this price point to me , I am more going for playability and sound over looks.

I saw this thread and dropped the hammer and ordered one. recieved it tues and was a little disappointed with the tone. Ordered and recieved a set of la Bella Deep Talking Flats. Now that is sweet. Played in two gigs this weekend and all were inpressed. The bass is really light, but there is some head dive, will need a different strap that is less slick. This is a great bass, the price is just frosting.
